Tournament Report
Men 'The Master' Goes from Worst to First in No Limit Legends Event #13
A field of 252 players purchased 358 rebuys to create a prize pool of $177,510 in event #13 $300 + $35 No Limit Hold'em. There were over 1.8 million chips in play and the final table did not converge until 4am. In the middle of Level 18, with an ante of 2500 and blinds of 8000/16000, there were a couple of short stacks but adequate play was afforded to most of the final table.
It took 3 hands for the first elimination to occur. Jon Gelb raised all-in preflop with an A-10 and then Men 'The Master' Nguyen on the button with K-K. The blinds folded The Master had successfully isolated Jon. The board came Q-J-4-Q-3. No Broadway for Jon and he was eliminated in 10th place earning $2,220.
On hand #11 Maung Myothein was all-in with a suited 9d-6d. Michael Simhai called the minimal all-in and showed A-J. The board was all Michael with a J-10-4-Q-7. Maung Myothein finished in 9th place and took home $2,660. The first 20 minutes saw many all-ins, two eliminations, and a strong indication that each player was fearless about going broke in an attempt to accumulate the rest of the chips.
On hand #31 Men 'The Master', while on the button, was raised all-in by Andy Ortiz in the cutoff position. The Master quickly called and showed A-Ko. Andy looked disappointed to see his A-10 was badly dominated. The board ran out 9-5-2-8-K and Andy Ortiz could not overcome the domination. Andy was eliminated in 8th place and received $3,550 in prize money.
At 5:30 am Men the Master called the all-in of Lance Tahata. Lance was getting short stacked and Men was picking off players for the last 2 hours. Lance Tahata showed a Kh-J and Men had the suited Qh-7h. The flop was K-4h-2h and Lance increased his lead although he faced Men's flush draw. The turn was a 5h giving Men the flush but leaving Lance with the re-draw since he was holding the King of Hearts. The river was an offsuit Jack and Men knocked out his 3 opponent at the final table and increases his chip lead.
Lance Tahata, who has multiple final table appearances at this years Legends events, was eliminated in 7th place and cashed for $4,440. Lance overheard the final six players debating on doing a chip count or playing on. He joked with the final 6 on why they 'couldn't do a chip count about 5 minutes ago'. Lance is a class act and a strong competitor at every final table.
At 5:45am the players counted up the chips, had the staff run the numbers and unanimously agreed to the chip count deal with very little discussion. Men 'The Master' Nguyen, who started the final table in last place in chips, was the chip leader and was declared the winner on event #13.
