Men 'The Master' Nguyen Masters Omaha Hi/Lo For His Second Ring
The 2008 Legends of Poker continued with Event #15, a $545 buy-in Omaha Hi/Lo 8 or better tournament. A field of 112 played for a share of the $54,320 prize pool. Action began at Level 14 with blinds at 2,000 and 4,000 playing 4,000 and 8,000 limits. Pat Peercy arrived as the chip leader with 154,000 of the 504,000 chips in play.
It did not take long to lose our first player. On hand #2 Paul Lee went all-in before the flop for his last 7K. Men 'The Master' Nguyen and Mike 'The Hat' Jacobs both called Lee's all-in. Lee had a chance to triple up his short stack but when the board read 9d-Qc-3h-7h-Ac Nguyen's A-9-7-5 took the high using A-9 for two-pairs while Longo's 9-8-4-3 used his 8-4 for low. Lee could not get a piece of the pot as he was out in 9th place for $1,085.
On hand #21 Hoang Ta was all-in before the flop and was called by John Bessent and Craig Chait. Bessent and Chait checked down a board of 7d-8s-Ad-8c-5c. Bessent had A-2-3-5 for the nut-low and Aces up for high good enough to knock out Ta in 8th place for $1,220.
Michael Jacobs went all-in on hand #21 with A-7-4-2 on a flop of Ah-6h-2h. Men 'The Master' Nguyen held Q-6-3-2. The turn 6s gave Nguyen a full house while Jacobs was holding on to a low with his 7-4. Nguyen called for a low card and got it when the 5c fell on the river giving Nguyen a 6 low with his live 3 and sending Jacobs out in 7th place for $1,360.
A few hands later on hand #25 Mike 'The Hat' Longo was all-in with J-J-9-4 on the turn with the board reading Jd-9c-Kh-As. Nguyen held K-K-4-3 and his set of Kings beat Longo's set of Jacks after the 3s fell on the river. Longo was knocked out in 6th place receiving $1,900 for his efforts.
Craig Chait was all-in with A-K-10-10 on a board of 9d-9c-7d. Nguyen held 8d-5d-5-2 and was behind Chait's pair of tens. The turn came 4d gave Nguyen a flush knocking Chait, who recently finished in 2nd place in event #12 $1,000 NLH, out in 5th place for $2,445.
On hand #45 Pat Peercy was all-in with 10-8-7-6 against Nguyen's 8-7-5-4. The board came A-3-K-J-2 giving Nguyen a wheel sending Pat Peercy, who won event #8 $300 NLH, out in 4th place for $3,260.
With play down to 3 players, Men 'The Master' Nguyen had a dominating chip lead over the remaining two. A deal was discussed and agreed upon with Nguyen declared winner of event #15 and his second ring at this year's Legends of Poker.
