Tournament Report
Robert MacDonald Was 'In The Zone' On His Way to First Tournament
Win
The 2008 Legends of Poker continued with Event #16, a $1,070 buy-in No Limit
Hold'em tournament. A field of 201 played for a share of the $194,970 prize
pool. Action began at Level 15 with 3,000 and 6,000 blinds with a 1,000 ante.
Robert MacDonald arrived as the chip leader with 377,500 of the 1,206,000 chips
in play.
Our first elimination occurred on hand #11 when Thien Nguyen raised to 35K.
Barry Woods went all-in for 38K total with Nguyen calling with Ah-Kx. Barry
was behind with his A-J. The flop of 8h-9h-3h reduced Barry's outs from three
to two outs. The turn was a black Jack giving Barry the lead for the moment.
The 5h on the river gave Nguyen an Ace high flush sending Barry Woods out in
10th place for $2,435.
A few hands later Dong Xu pushed all in with Ad-Kd and was called by Alex Casco
who held pocket eights. When the board came 9-5-3-2-10 Casco's pair of eights
knocked Xu out in 9th place for $2,925.
Hand #30 saw Alex Casco go all-in for his last 33K with A-6 and was called
by Eddie Villareal who had big slick A-K. After the board of A-Q-5-5-7 was dealt,
Villareal's Aces up with King kicker sent Casco out in 8th place for $3,900.
Six hands later Thien Nguyen raised to 50K. Hugo Cerdeiro went all-in with
a suited Ace-King of diamonds and Nguyen called for his last chips with pocket
Jacks. The flop of K-7-3 gave Cerdeiro a pair of Kings and the lead. The turn
5 and river 4 were no help for Nguyen who finished in 7th place good for $4,875.
On hand #41 Kwinsee Tran was all-in with his short stack holding pocket fives.
Dao Bac did not have to call much more from the big-blind with 10-2. The flop
of 7-J-Q kept Tran in the lead. However the turn 10 and river deuce gave Bac
a running two-pairs and sent Tran out in 6th place for $6,825.
After a few rounds Dao Bac found himself as the short stack at the table. He
went all-in on hand #65 with K-Q. Robert MacDonald called with A-9. The board
of J-7-6-2-4 did not improve either person's hands leaving MacDonald's Ace high
good enough to send Bac out in 5th place for $8,775.
It was now just past 7am and the four remaining players discussed a chip count
deal. The floor staff ran the numbers and the players were satisfied with the
result. Robert MacDonald, who came to the final table as the chipleader, was
in the lead when the deal was agreed to and was declared winner of event #16.

BIOGRAPHY
Robert MacDonald is a businessman involved in the warehouse and distribution
industries. He has been playing poker for 4 years. You can see Robert at the
10-20 blind no-limit hold'em cash games. He just started playing tournaments
with this win being his first in five tries. He said he was 'in the zone'
when the tournament was down to 3 tables where he was the chipleader and stayed
in that position all the way to the end. He contributes this win to a patient
strategy focusing on position.
