Tournament Report
Ablahad Salim Plays All The Way, Wins All The Chips
The 2008 Legends of Poker continued with Event #21, a $1,070 buy-in No Limit Hold'em tournament. A field of 272 players played for a share of the $263,840 prize pool. Final table play began with 36:52 left at level 15 with blinds at 3,000 and 6,000 with a 1,000 ante. Richard Talerico arrived to the final table as the chip leader with 320,000 of 1,632,000 chips in play.
Paul Chanderson was short stacked when he pushed all-in on hand #11 with Ac-Jc. He was called by Louie Huynh's A-K. The flop of Kc-4c-4 gave Huynh top pair but gave Chanderson a flush draw. The turn queen and river 6 were no help and Chanderson was our first player eliminated in 10th place for $3,300.
A few hands later Ablahad Salim raised before the flop to 35K. Joe DeNiro called for his last 9.5K with 7-6. Salim held pocket 10's and after the board came K-7-2-5-4 DeNiro was out in 9th place earning $3,960.
Hand #19 saw Anthony Marquez push all-in for 42K with Q-J. Thomas Emerson called from the button with A-Q. The board of 6-6-5-6-2 did not improve either hand. Emerson's Ace high was good enough to send Marquez out in 8th place for $5,275.
The very next hand Richard Talerico raised to 30K under the gun. Phillip Luong pushed all-in from the big blind for an additional 25K. After some thought Talerico called with A-8. Talerico was ahead against Luong who held K-J. After the board came A-9-7-K-5, Talerico's pair of Aces bested Luong's pair of Kings. Luong finished in 7th place for $6,595.
It would be 20 hands until our next elimination. Thomas Emerson went all-in with A-7 and was called by Ablahad Salim on the button who held pocket Kings. There was no Ace on the board of J-8-Q-3-Q as Salim's two-pair was enough to send Emerson out in 6th place for $9,235.
On hand #52 Ablahad Salim raised to 50K under the gun. Bryan Asch pushed all-in with pocket 10's and Salim called with A-Q. The flop of 6-6-3 was no help for Salim. A Jack came on the turn and Asch was a card away from doubling up. However a Queen on the river gave Salim the pot and eliminated Asch in 5th place for $11,875.
Play was 4-handed for some time until hand #88 when Richard Talerico was all-in with Ad-Q against Salim's pocket 8's. The flop of 9d-2d-5d gave Talerico plenty of outs. The turn came a King and Talerico still needed an Ace, Queen, or diamond however the river came a black 7 and Talerico was knocked ou in 4th place for $15,830.
Craig Brennan was all-in with A-7 and Salim called with pocket 6's. Things just kept going Salim's way as the board came J-J-4-4-8 and Brennan became our 3rd place finisher earning $23,745.
Heads up play began with Salim holding about a 3 to 1 chip lead over Louie Huynh. Huynh was able to double through Salim when his Ah-Jh bested Salim's K-J. Salim kept chipping away and on the last hand Salim called from the button. Huynh then raised to 50K and Salim went all-in. Huynh called with K-9 and was up against Salim's J-8. The flop came A-10-4 no help to either player with Huynh still in the lead. The turn came another Ace with Huynh one card away from doubling through. The river came a Jack and Salim pairs his Jack and knocks out Huynh in 2nd place for $48,545. It was just Ablahad Salim's night as he had all the chips in play and wins event #21.
