Simpsons' Executive Producer Sam Simon Wins Top Prize, Donates Winnings to One Step Closer Foundation
LOS ANGELES, CA - August 3, 2008 - The stars came out for the One Step Closer Foundation's first annual ‘All in for CP' celebrity poker tournament last night at the Hollywood Park Casino in Inglewood, CA., ‘The Simpsons' Executive Producer Sam Simon won the top prize, which he immediately donated back to the foundation.
Other players buying in included 2006 World Series of Poker champion Jamie Gold, 3-time World Series of Poker champion Barry Greenstein, TV personality Montel Williams, X Games BMX athlete Dennis McCoy and actress Shannon Elizabeth of ABC's 'Dancing with the Stars' to show their support, which helped to raise more than $44,000 for the foundation. Special guests in attendance include Jennifer Malenke of Disney's 'High School Musical,' Miguel Nunez of 'Meet Dave' and Katie Gill of A&E's ‘The Cleaners'.
The ‘All in for CP' tournament is the brainchild of Jacob Zalewski, who suffers from cerebral palsy, and longtime friend Mason Lerner. Mr. Zalewski recognizes that while he suffers from cerebral palsy, he realizes that he is one of the lucky ones and has dedicated himself to raising funds and awareness to ease, as much as possible, the lives of those who suffer from cerebral palsy through the One Step Closer Foundation
'It was an amazing event,' says Zalewski. 'I still can't believe that this day came after a year in the making. I am very humbled by the turnout - it was more than I thought it would be and I hope that each year it gets bigger and better.'
The silent auction featured autographed memorabilia such as a Reggie Bush helmet, Joe Montana jersey and Doyle Brunson hat. Others include a ticket to Nancy Cartwright's 3rd annual Monte Carlo Night, a 'Ray Romano Vegas Package': 2 round trip air fare tickets to Las Vegas, 2 nights at the Mirage Hotel & Casino, 2 tickets to the show at the Mirage; and the 'Brad Garrett ‘Til Death Package': 4 tickets to the show with a meet & greet with stars Brad and Joely Fisher , and Dermalogica skin care products and day spa retreat by Body Oasis Day Spa.
