Tournament Report
Michael Jones Takes Charge Of Final Table
The 2008 Big Poker October continued with event #10, a $120 buy-in No Limit Hold'em tournament. A field of 568 played for a share of the $55,096 prize pool. Blinds were at 20K/40K with a 5K ante. David Palm arrived to the final table as the chip leader with 885,000 of the 4,544,000 chips in play.
We lost our first player on the very first hand dealt as Jesus Sanchez was all-in with A-10 and was called by Zhe Sun holding A-K. After the board came 9-A-8-J-8, Sun's pair of Aces with King kicker knocked Sanchez out in 10th place for $605.
It did not take long to lose our 2nd player because on the very next hand Kevin Gutierrez was all-in with pocket 8's. He was up against Michael Jones' A-J. The flop of 6-K-9 kept Gutierrez' pair of 8's in the lead. However Jones' spiked an Ace on the turn and after the river came a 6, Jones' pair of Aces sent Gutierrez out in 9th place for $1,100.
On hand #11 Ian Giatti was all-in with A-K and was in great shape against Ulises 'Taxi' Molina's A-J. The flop came J-Q-7 and 'Taxi' took the lead with a pair of Jacks. Giatti now needed a King or 10 to stay alive. After the turn came a Queen and river came a 5, Giatti was knocked out in 8th place for $1,655.
We were down to 7 players left at this point and discussion of a chip count deal came up. The tournament staff counted everyone's chips and ran the numbers. Each player agreed to what they were getting. Michael Jones, after knocking out a player and picking up most of the pots at the final table, was the chip leader and declared winner of event #10

BIOGRAPHY
Michael Jones is a regular at the Bicycle Casino. He plays mostly tournaments but can also be seen at the Omaha Hi/Lo cash games. Jones plays a tight-aggressive style that worked out well at this final table using it to propel him to the chip lead. He said he knew he was going to do well in this tournament because he was mostly short-stacked and that he plays great when he short on chips. In addition to tonight's win Jones' also had a large cash for a 2nd place finish at this year's Legends of Poker.
