Jason Fischer Earns His 1st Live Win
Event #11 of Big Poker October was the second non-Hold'em tournaments in the series. 133 players entered the 7-Card Stud Hi-Lo 2pm event and ten hours later our final eight were seated at the final table. There were two extremely short stacks and only one of them had an early departure.
On hand #5 early in level 16 where the ante was 1,000 and the low card was 2,000, short stack Brett Freeman was all-in by sixth street against Abraham Edusma. Brett ended up with a pair of 3s and missing his low while Abraham had Jacks-up with no low either. Abraham scooped the pot and Brett Freeman finished in 8th place for $320.
On hand #17 Aaron Peters had Shan Gu covered for her last few chips. Aaron ended up with a pair of deuces and no low. Shan had A-2-4-8-K-Q going to the river but rivered a 9 for a missed low along with her Ace high. Aaron scoops with a pair of ducks and Shan Gu finished in 7th place for $385.
In short time, hand #22 was the next elimination when Leo Kay was all-in against Jason Fischer. Jason won with 2-pair (9-9-2-2) and Leo mucked his cards before I could record the entire hand. Leo Kay finished in 6th place and earned $515.
It would take until hand #54 before the next elimination—almost spanning 2 hours. A 3-way pot developed until the river when Jason Fischer folded to Bill Mendicki's river bet after checking it down for 2 streets. Bill Mendicki showed (K-6) 7-6-9-4 (6) for trip 6s. Aaron Peters showed a pair of Aces with a missed low. Bill scooped and Aaron Peters finished in 5th place and collected $645.
Hand #66 had Bill Mendicki covering Abraham Edusma. Bill had a pair of Aces and had Abraham beat with Queens. Neither player made a low so Bill scooped and Abraham finished in 4th place for $775.
Hand #67 proved tragic for Miklos Kiray who ended with 2-pair (6-6-5-5) and no low. It was no match for Bill Mendicki's Quad 7s. Bill scoops another and Miklos is eliminated in 3rd place for $1,290.
The final two players made a deal before playing heads-up. Jason had a 4:3 chip lead and was declared the winner.
