Tournament Report

Lisa Santy Earns Her First Ladies Win

The 2008 Big Poker October continued with event #13, a $60 buy-in Queen of Clubs Ladies No Limit Hold'em tournament. A field of 267 played for a share of the $12,949 prize pool. Elizabeth Ouellette arrived to the final table as the chip leader with 376,000 of the 1,601,000 chips in play.

Annabelle Najera was short stacked when she arrived to the final table. She was all in with A-Q against Lisa Santy's 10-5. Santy made 2-pair sending Najera out in 9th place for $195.

Just a few hands later Lori Brice, who as also short stacked when she arrived to the final table, was all in with 9-8 against Naomi Takaya's Q-6. After the board came 6-K-3-7-2 Takaya's pair of 6's were good enough to send Brice out in 8th place for $260.

Kristi Blakey went all in from the cutoff with J-8 and was called by Aleida Soto from the small blind with A-J. Soto had Blakey dominated and after the board came 9-K-9-J-Q Soto's pair of Jacks sent Blakey out in 7th place for $325.

A three-way all in came about when Lisa Santy raised before the flop with A-K. Louneto Rodriguez went all in with pocket 10's. Naomi Takaya also went all in with pocket 7's. Santy called both all ins and after the board came A-4-3-10-2 Rodriguez won the main pot with a set of 10's and Santy won the side pot with a pair of Aces sending Takaya out in 6th place for $455.

We were down to 5 players at this point and with the blinds and antes as high as they were the remaining players wanted to take a look at a chip count deal. After the tournament staff ran the numbers each player agreed to what they were getting. Lisa Santy was the chip leader at this point and declared winner of event #13.

BIOGRAPHY

Lisa Santy plays both open and ladies events. This is her first win of a ladies tournament. Santy has been on a good run lately with a couple wins in Las Vegas in the past few weeks. You can also see her playing $100 and $200 no-limit hold'em cash games. Santy describes her strategy as being patient and having some card luck. She also likes to force other players to make a decision on their hands. Her strategy worked out tonight as she was the commanding chipleader when the deal was made.
