Tournament Report

Charles Heinemann Bests Field of 683 For First Tournament Win

The 2008 Big Poker October continued with event #16, a $60 buy-in No Limit Hold'em tournament. A field of 683 players vied for a share of the $33,125 prize pool. Charles Heinemann arrived to the final table as the chip leader with 505,000 of the 4,092,000 chips in play.

The remaining 10 players were excited to have reached the final table. It was 2:30am when they arrived and after counting their chips the players went on break. During the break there was discussion of a chip count deal. One player was leading the discussion mentioned that everyone should get a nice amount especially for a $60 buy-in tournament. Other players echoed the sentiment adding that it's 2:30am and "we should take our money and go home".

So as the players returned from break, they let the tournament staff know they wanted to run the numbers. As the tournament staff ran the numbers it seemed everyone would be in agreement. When the numbers were announced each and every player at the final table did not hesitate to say yes and with that the tournament was over. Charles Heinemann was the chip leader and declared winner of event #16.

BIOGRAPHY

Charles Heinemann is a bartender from Whittier, CA. This is his first tournament win. He has been playing poker for 2 years. Charles plays mostly tournaments at the Bike and online. At times you can see him at the $40 buy-in no-limit hold'em cash games. He describes his strategy as being determined and taking care of his chips. Charles said the key hand to the tournament was when he was holding pocket 10's and was up against a set of 9's. The turn and river came running diamonds to give him a flush. He won a huge pot that gave him the chip lead with 14 players left and never looked back.
