Tournament Report

Andy Phan 1st Place - Nice Deal

Event #17 of Big Poker October was a big buy-in event for this series at $300 + $35. This no-rebuy tournament had 315 entries which resulted in a prize pool of $91,665. The final table was set at 5:15am when the final eleven players had two all-ins and was covered by one of the final table players. The double knockout resulted in the final 9 players combining to the final table. The players arrived at the final table and had a 10 minute break while the tournament staff did a chip count. At 5:30 the players returned and all agreed that they wanted to see a chip count deal. The numbers were run and it was clear that they all were eager to call it a day. Each player agreed to the deal without any negotiation and the final table was done before it even started. Andy Phan was the chip leader over local poker pro Minh Nguyen by about 10%.

Without a single hand to report, I do have one hand recored when there were two tables remaining. Poker pro Vince Burgio was knocked out on a tough beat. Vince was all-in with A-Ko against a player with A-10. Vince flopped the King and was in a big lead until running spades fell and Vince saw his preflop dominating hand go down in flames on the river.

BIOGRAPHY
Andy Phan declined to be interviewed. A quick search on the internet did not show any previous tournament cashes so congratulations on his "first-first" (first time - first win).
