Tournament Report

The 2008 Foxwoods World Poker Finals Omaha Hi-Lo Championship began with 156 hopeful poker players. With a total prize pool of $80,199 on the line the competition was spirited and in the end it came down to three of the top four final table chip leaders to decide the Championship. Jeff Hunter of Glastonbury, CT, Eugene Roemischer of Newton, MA and David Brooker of Stuart, FL battled it out. In the end it was Jeff who claimed the Championship Trophy, commemorative leather jacket, and $22,218 in cash!

When two players were eliminated on the last hand Thursday night, it meant that nine players would return for the final table. Derek Raymond, Portland, ME, and Hong Lei, Old Lyme, CT, were out in 10th and 11th respectively. The first player to collect his winnings from the final table was Flushing, NY, resident Lawrence Zito. Lawrence was soon all-in with with his last $5K and with three callers and no low, he lost to Eugene with J’s full and Lawrence was the 9th place winner of $2,012. Eugene also handed defeat to Ken Danforth who resides in Lebanon, NH. He had A4510 but Eugene’s A3 and trip 6’s earned him a scoop and left Ken with $2,405 for 8th place. Eric Barnes, survived an all-in a couple of hands earlier but not when he battled Chris Reslock’s first all-in effort along with two other callers. The board showed no low and with a pair of 3’s, that gave Chris trips and the scoop. Eric departed back to Littlestown, PA with $2,807 and 7th place. Chris Reslock of Atlantic City, NJ was unable to survive his next all-in moving in with AhAcJc4s. The board was 3d3hJsJd10h and Bruce Walton’s 3s10c8c9h gave him 3’s full and Chris 6th place for $3,208. It took a little over an hour before the next players were lost and they were Bruce Walton, of Calais, ME and Mark Awalt, of West Enfield, ME. Bruce pushed in $25k while Mark moved in with $26k. David Brooker was also all-in with $29k while the chip leader, Jeff Hunter called. The board was 9s8hAh2s7s giving David the flush and Jeff the low with A3. This left 5th and $4,010 to Bruce and 4th and $5,614 to Mark.

The last hand of the event had David Brooker going all-in with his last $20k and being called by the last two major chip holders. Jeff and Eugene checked it down to the river. The board was As4h6d6h9c, David played 2d8dJcJs, while Jeff showed 4c5s7hQh and Eugene had AdQd5cKh, giving Eugene the A’s and Jeff the 57 low. Jeff and Eugene who had about a 6 to 4 chip advantage came to an agreement to split the remaining prize, $22,218 and $17,000 respectively. Jeff also received the Championship Trophy and commemorative jacket.
