Tournament Report
The 2008 Foxwoods World Poker Finals $600 No-Limit Hold'em Shoot-out drew 330 players. Single table
sessions were held at 10 am and 1 pm with the top three players at each table advancing to the 4 pm finals. Shortly after
midnight, the final table had been reached and would return to play at noon on Monday. It took almost seven hours for
Bernard Lee of Wayland, MA to become the $600 Shoot-out Champion as he took the Championship Trophy, and
$22,893!!
The night before, the final 20 players had reached an agreement to award the 5th through 20th positions each
$5,000. Stephen Lateano of Suffield, CT was the first to leave the final table as he moved all-in with J's only to be
called by Bernard with K's. The board provided no help for Stephen as he took 10th and $5,000. It took just over an
hour before Dennis Couto pushed his final $12k in with A/Q, but he ran into AK from Davied Lew. The board cameup
9/A/7/K/7 and Dennis headed back to Taunton, MA with $5,000 and 9th place. After losing the bulk of his chip
stack the hand prior, Jay Morgenstern of Chestnut Hill, MA went all in with 8/5 only to be called and checked down
by Matt and Bernard. Jay rivered a pair of 8's but Matt's pocket 9's left Jay with 8th and $5,000. Bobby ‘The Bus'
Ferdinand had survived several all-ins, but when he pushed with pocket 7's, Rob Taqtaq called with 10's and hit a 10
on the flop to send Bobby home to Revere, MA in 7th place with $5,000. Steve Ryan brought his efforts for the
championship to an end after moving all-in with 2c4c against David Lew's J's. With only a deuce to help him, Steve
went back to Brooklyn, NY with $5,000 for 6th. The 5th place finisher was David Lew of Portland, ME. He had
pocket 5's and was called by Rob Taqtaq with Ks7s. The board was Js9sQh10h7d giving Rob the straight and David a
$5,000 payday.
Mohamed Ahmed lived the life of a cat, as he started the day with the short stack, and survived 9 called
all-in plays. Unfortunately the 10th called all-in effort proved Mohamed only had 9 lives. His 2/3 got no help
against Rob's J/9, and Mohamed headed back to the Bronx in 4th with $14,000 for his hard fought effort. Shortly
thereafter Matt Sahagian of Acton, MA moved all-in with 6's and was called by Rob and A/J. The board was Q/10/3/
J/A and Matt finished in 3rd with $14,000.
The last two players began heads-up action with Bernard Lee having a slight chip advantage. He was the chip
leader at the start of the final table and he never relinquished his lead. On the final hand Rami'Rob'Taqtaq, a resident
of Boston, MA pushed in with K6 after the A56 flop. Bernard quickly called with A7. The board turned and rivered
A6 to give Bernard A's full and leave Rob with $14,000 and 2nd place, and the championship for Bernard Lee.
