Tournament Report
The 2008 Foxwoods World Poker Finals $600 7 Card Stud Hi-Lo Championship attracted 103
entrants who competed for a total prize pool of $52,952. After a little over two hours of play, the final
three were determined, and were able to come to an agreement that left Cecil Chu of Forest Hills, NY
with 3rd, the commemorative jacket, and $8,000. Gordon Sprague who was playing in only his 2nd
tournament event ever (he placed 2nd in this year's WPF $600 7 Card Stud event, his 1st tournament
experience), placing 2nd and taking $9,000 back home to Norwich, CT. This year's Champion is Neal
Friets of Keene, NH taking $13,660 and the Chamionship Trophy. This was Neal's second victory of this
year's WPF Tournament after earning Top Honors in the $600 Seniors No-Limit Event.
The short stack at the final table, Mark Wagy was soon all-in; his A's over 3's was no match for
Gene Paulen who hit the straight. Mark, a resident of Wilmington, NC took 8th place and $1,589. The
next player to leave the table was Timothy Finne of Fanwood, NJ. Timothy moved all-in after calling
Gordon on 5th street, with a low draw, but was unable to hit and his 9's fell to Gordon's J's. Timothy
was the winner of $1,853 for 7th. Chris Reslock, making his 2nd final table of this year's WPF, also was
on a low draw after pushing his remaining chips in against Neal Friets. Neither gentleman was able to hit
their low draw, but Neal's 7's topped Chris' 3's and Chris was left with $2,118 for 6th place. Chris will
be heading back to Atlantic City with two 6th place finishes after accomplishing the same feat in the
Omaha Hi-Lo event. Ten minutes later Anthony Colella of Newton, MA went all-in with A's.
Unfortunately he was called by chip leader Neal, whose 9's improved to 9's full of 5's, while Anthony's
A's were accompanied only by spaces and leaving him with 5th and a $2,648 payday. The last contender
to be taken down was Gene Paulen, who was the chip leader at the start of the day. Gene would be
heading back to Pleasantville, NY, after raising all-in with K's over 3's only to be eliminated by Neal
with A's over Q's. Gene finished in 4th and was awarded $3,706 for his efforts.
This left Neal Friets as the 2008 Foxwoods World Poker Finals 7 Card Stud Hi-Lo Champion
after the last three contestants reached their agreement!
