Tournament Report
Of the 632 players who began on Wednesday, 19 returned at Noon today to compete for the Championship.
After two hours the Final Table was determined and Matt Stout, a resident of Galloway, NJ, was the first to depart. Matt
was all-in with 8's, and was called by Charbel Azzi with J's and with no help from the board, Matt was the 10th place
winner of $5,000. Christopher Bonita moved all-in with A6 and was called by Brian Lesser with KQ. The board
came-out 10/7/K/10/7 giving Brian K's and Chris settled for 9th and would return to Winthrop, MA with $5,000.
Nolan Prunty, of Bellingham, WA, pushed with KQ, but unfortunately ran into chip leader Mike Spitaleri
with AK and with no assistance from the board, Nolan finished 8th for $5,000. The next two to leave ran into the same
misfortune, as each was called by slightly higher pocket pairs. First was Charbel Azzi of Methuen, MA, who moved allin
with 4's only to be called by Darrin Renner with 5's and once again with no help from the board, Charbel took 7th and
$6,499. The next victim was Brian Lesser, who made his move with 8's after the flop of 2/3/2. Mike deliberated for a
while and called Brian's bet of $220,000 and showed 9's and with 5/K to complete the board, Brian headed back to
Weston, MA with $9,747 for 6th place. Paul Darden of Hamden, CT was down to his last $33k and would short call,
Chris King's raise, with 8/5. Chris flipped over K's and with 6/6/2/10/A on the board, Paul would finish 5th and receive
$14,312 for his efforts.
With four players left, Edward Pelham of Stamford, CT, was the short stack, and could not survive his next
all-in move with AJ. He was called by Darrin with Ah7h and after the flop came-out 5c9s3h, Ed was feeling pretty
comfortable until runner-runner hearts gave Darrin the flush and Ed 4th place and $19,083.
The final three decided they would each take $50,000 and play for $20,631 and the trophy. Shortly thereafter,
Darrin Renner moved all-in with $452,000 and AJ. He had the misfortune of being called by Chris with pocket A's.
The board did not come to Darrin's aid so he would have to settle for 3rd and head back to Schuylerville, NY with a
$50,000 payday. With Chris enjoying only a very slight chip advantage over Mike the final two decided to split the last
part of the prize pool and play for the Trophy and the Commemorative Jacket. After a few insignificant hands, the final
hand was underway. Both players saw the flop of J/9/Kwith no raises, then the turn came out...a 10, and Mike moved allin
with K/4 and was quickly called by Chris with Q/3 and the straight. The river was an A, completing Broadway and
leaving Michael Spitaleri of Levittown, NY with $60,315 for an impressive 2nd place finish, while Chrisopher King
would take home the Championship Trophy, Commemorative Leather Jacket, and $60,316 back to Plainfield, IL as the
2008 $600 No-Limit Champion!!
