Tournament Report

A total of 443 players entered the $1000 No-Limit Hold'em event in the 2008 Foxwoods World Poker Finals. With a total prize pool of $391,036 on the line, Jerry Wong came on strong and took it down. Jerry of Plattsburgh, NY, grabbed hold of the chip lead after landing pocket A's in a run of 3 of 5 hands with all three of those hands resulting in called all-in action at the final table. He took all three hands and never looked back; claiming the Championship Trophy, and the First Place prize of $113,010! Two tables returned at Noon on Friday to continue the quest for the Championship and the final table was determined by 2 pm. Shortly after play began, one of the short stacks, Vinny Pahuja of New York, NY, went in with AhKh. The board came-out 9/Q/Q/6/3 and Vinny could not catch up to Jerry's first of a series of three pocket A's, leaving Vinny as the 10th place winner of $3,714. Two hands earlier, Todd Terry had fallen victim to an all-in call where he had lost all but two 1k chips. After folding the prior hand, he was all-in with his ante of 1k and unfortunately his AQ got no help from the board and lost to Forrest with A's. Todd headed back to Hoboken, NJ with $4,523 for 9th. The next to fall prey to Jerry's pocket A's were Kim Jolicoeur of Coteau-Du-Lac, Quebec, and Matt Tevlin. Kim moved all-in with her last 69K with A/7 and was called by Matt with pocket 10's, and Jerry with AhAs. The flop was 6h2hQh followed by the 10h giving Matt trips and Jerry the flush, the river was a K and Jerry picked another 220k in chips from Matt giving him the chip lead. Kim took 8th for $5,866, while Matt took $8,603 for 7th. Patrick Marcil was the next to move all-in calling Jerry's all-in bet with the AhKh only to be in awe of yet another pair of A's from Jerry. The board did nothing for Patrick and he would claim 6th place for $12,513 and head back to Quebec, Canada. The final 5 played for 2 hours before Forrest Mansur of Sanford, ME Called Jerry's all-in bet after the flop of 9/3/6. Forrest called with A/4 to Jerry's 10/3, and with a K/3 to follow, Forrest would earn $$18,379 for his 5th place finish. Two hands later, Randall Deshaies would move all-in after the flop with K/8. The flop was 5/K/5 and he was quickly called by Jerry with pocket K's. Randall, a resident of Somerville, MA would finish 4th and realize a $24,244 payday. Three way action continued for about an hour, until Eric Haber of Syosset, NY pushed his last 190k in with K/ A. Jerry called with pocket 2's and with 9/6/5/8/2 on the board, Eric's run would end with him in 3rd place, taking home $34,020 for his efforts. Norman Doucette of Esksoni, Nova Scotia, and Jerry battled it out for about half an hour before Jerry finally called Norman's all-in. Norman flipped over K/2, while Jerry showed A/5. The flop was 4/Q/9, turn...3, and the river was a 2 giving Jerry a runner runner straight and leaving Norman to collect $67,649 and the Commemorative Leather Jacket for his 2nd place finish. It was an amazing final table for Jerry Wong, having eliminated eight of his final table opponents to claim the 2008 Foxwoods World Poker Finals $1000 No-Limit Championship! Reported by Rhue R.
