Tournament Report
| The 231 entrants who began play on Friday in the 2008 Foxwoods World Poker Finals $1500 No-Limit
Championship were pursuing a prize pool of $317,625. The final table returned at Noon to vie for the top prize and
when the contest was over, Mike Huguenot of Pleasantville, NY, was the winner of the Championship Trophy,
commemorative leather jacket and $75,615! The agreement for the three finalists would give a tie for 2nd to Joanne
Monteavaro of Bronx, NY and Davidson Matthew of Toronto, Ontario giving them each $50,000.
The first to leave was Manelic Minaya of Tampa, FL. Joanne called the BB under the gun only to be
raised all-in by Manny, on the button with KQ. Joanne quickly called with A's and with no help from the board,
Manny was 10th earning $4,005. The next all-in called action came after the turn gave the board 5/Q/2/6. Justin
Pechie check raised Davidson's bet of 50k going all-in with K's. Davidson called with 3/4 for the straight and Justin
would finish 9th and take $4,622 back to Thompson, CT. It took almost an hour before Chris Bonita of Winthrop,
MA would call Dan Woolson's all-in after the flop of 8/8/Q. Chris, who was down to his last 50k moved with K/9
while Dan had Q/2. The turn and river were 6/7 leaving Chris with $5,546 for 8th spot. In just over an hour, Al
Mepomnyaschiy, who started the final table as the short stack, would move all-in with AJ, pushing his last 80k. He
was called by Joe Pitti with KQ. The board (K/10/7/2/7) gave Joe K's and sent Al back to Staten Island, NY in 7th
place with a $6,778 payday. Once again it took an hour before the next departure. Stan Shaw, a resident of
Springfield, MA, would push all-in with K/9 and would go up against Joanne with AK. The board provided no
assistance to Stan, resigning him to 6th and giving him $9,859 for his efforts.
The first to leave from the Top 5, was Joseph Pitti, who hails from East Meadow, NY. Once again action
heated up after the turn. The board was 8/Q/9/6 and Joe would bet 60k, only to be raised by Davidson to 120k. Joe
would then push all-in, and was quikly called. Joe flipped over Q/J only to be disappointed by David's 7/10 for the
straight. The river was a deuce and Joe would settle for 5th place and $14,481. Daniel Woolson of Worcester, MA,
made his final move after seeing the flop (3/10/3), when he would call Joanne's all-in. Dan had 10/2 while Joanne
showed J/10, and with no further help, as the 4/5 came out to complete the board, Dan was relegated to 4th for
$19,102.
With Mike's 2:1 chip advantage over Joanne and David, the three finalists reached an agreement where
Mike would take $75,615, the trophy, commemorative jacket, and the Title of 2008 Foxwoods World Poker Finals
$1500 No-Limit Hold'em Championship!
