Tournament Report
The 2008 Foxwoods World Poker Finals $10,000 No-Limit Championship became a showdown between
two of the youngest players in the field, and set a record for the longest WPT Final Table. Jonathan and Jonathan
battled it out for over 5 hours and in the end, Pensacola, FL poker phenom Jonathan Little became the 2008
Champion, taking the Championship Trophy, Commemorative Leather Jacket, and $1,120,310, which includes a
$25,500 Seat to the WPT Championship in Las Vegas Nevada!!
The Final Table got underway just after 5 pm and it took 2 hours before Mike “The Mouth” Matusow
of Las Vegas, NV, was all-in with A/J. Mike had earlier doubled up with A/J through Jon Jaffe when he paired a J on
the river to beat Jon's pocket 8's. This time Mike used A/J to call Jonathan Little who had pocket 9's. Mike received
no help from the board (K/3/5/5/4), and was left with 6th place money of $124,048. Jaffe had earlier doubled-up
Jack Schanbacker when he called Jack's all-in with pocket 5's to Jack's A/Q. The flop gave Jack Q's and over a
million in chips. Shortly thereafter Jack was down to 800k in chips and moved all-in with 8s9s and was called by
Little with Q's. The board gave Jack only 8's and left him with 5th and $182,196 to take home to Pittsburgh, PA.
David Pham of Cerritos, CA was unable to mount any kind of a charge during the first couple of hours
and would fall to the short stack position when he finally encountered his first all-in show-down. David moved all-in
with deuces and was called by Charlie Marchese with K/J. The board came-out J/A/4/A/9, giving Charlie A's and J's
and resigning David to 4th with a $240,344 payday. The final three went at it for almost two hours with Charlie
Marchese of Shoreham, NY holding the short stack position during the entire three-man session. Charlie had earned
his way into the main event by buying into an Act II for $250. He won his Act II and subsequent Act III and fought
his way all the way to 3rd place earning $337,256. Charlie was finally eliminated when he re-raised all-in with A/J
and was called by Jonathan Little with pocket Q's. Charlie got no help from the board, but the NY amateur and his
cheering section certainly enjoyed the memorable ride to the final table.
Heads-up action started at 10:30 pm and would endure for 5 hours. The record setting WPT Final Table
Event took 275 hands to complete. The previous record was 271 hands of which Mr. Little was a part of as well. The
two Jonathans would sweat-out nine all-in show-downs during their battle, with Little needing runner-runner spades
for a flush to keep himself alive in the 8th show-down. The final show-down had Little with A/Q calling Jaffe with
A/10. The board came 8/6/8/K/Q giving Little two pair and relegating Jonathan Jaffe of Enfield, CT to 2nd place,
and picking-up $670,636 for his efforts.
Jonathan Little is now the 2008 Foxwoods WPF $10k No-Limit Champion!! |
