Tournament Report
| -- Travis Erdman has now made it to the final table of the WSOP Circuit
championship at Harvey's Lake Tahoe three consecutive years. This is the
first time in the four-year history of the WSOP Circuit that any player has
achieved three straight championship final tables at the same location.
-- Chris "Jesus" Ferguson, the defending champion, nearly made it to the
final table. He is the only player in WSOP Circuit history to have won
three Circuit championships. A victory by Ferguson would have
been remarkable for another reason. It is believed that no player has
successfully defended his title in a major tournament (defined as those with
a buy-in of $5,000 and higher) since 1989, when Stu Ungar won back to back
Super Bowl of Poker titles in 1988 and 1989 (coincidentally at Lake Tahoe).
Ferguson ended up as the 11th-place finisher.
-- Allen "Chainsaw" Kessler had made it to the final table. Kessler is
believed to have entered more WSOP Circuit events than any player, to date.
He has over 90 cashes in his tournament career (dating back to 2001).
-- Mike McClain should be known for his poker prowess, but instead is
probably more well known as being the "agony of defeat" face for ESPN's WSOP
broadcasts. McClain was shown hundreds of times taking a bad beat during
the 2003 WSOP and instantly became synonymous with disappointment. He hopes
to erase those memories with a victory in this event.
-- Scott Clements owns two WSOP gold bracelets. He also won a WSOP Circuit
event at Lake Tahoe three years ago. He has over $3 million in tournament
winnings over the past three years.
-- Michael Binger made it to the final table. He finished third in the WSOP
Main Event in 2006.
