BORGATA CROWNS 2009 WINTER POKER OPEN CHAMPION
Championship Event Draws 1,017 Players and Generates $3,051,000
New York Man Goes From 17th to First in Final Day and Walks Away with $658,405
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (January 30, 2009) - Borgata Hotel Casino Spa concluded it's
record-setting Winter Poker Open Championship Event buy crowning Andes, NY native
Steve Weinsteen as the fourth ever Winter Poker Open Championship Event. The event
which kicked off on Sunday with a record-breaking 1,017 players and a prize pool of
$3,051,000, far exceeding the $2 million guarantee provided by Borgata, saw
Weinsteen go from 17th to first to take home the prestigious title and the Tag Hauer
watch.
Weinsteen played solid poker throughout the final day of play by picking his spots
and capitalizing on moments of weakness until he defeated Hoboken New Jersey's Todd
Terry heads up. Second place guaranteed Terry $434,647.
After sealing the win, Weinsteen was quick to comment about his rush of emotions
after playing roughly 48 hours of poker over four days. 'I really love to win. I
play a lot of games and the money is nice, but the thrill of getting this win is
amazing,' he said.
According to Weinsteen, Borgata's tournament staff was spot-on with its decision to
offer a $3,000 championship. 'The structure was tremendous. I'm not a tournament
player; I play cash games, so to have a deep stack event like this with so much play
was great. For someone who loves post-flop poker, it was excellent.'
