Tournament Report

Dateline Vienna, 31st May,2001, from Bill Marczak

The Austrian Masters 1000 ATS Pot Limit Omaha event held at the Concord Card Casino has concluded, & was won by Angelo Ju of China, who collected ATS 148,960 in prizemoney.Second place went to David "devilfish" Ulliot, with ATS 74,450.

With 1,473,000 chips in play, the final heads-up battle resulted in some massive pots, with Yu keeping the lead throughout. The key hand for Ulliot, which kept him in the contest was:

Ulliot AAK2 vs YU AKJ5 - final board J54-Q-3

However,Yu was betting & raising every hand, constantly putting pressure on Ulliot, eventually running out a deserved winner.

In the early stages at every table 5 to 7 players were seeing the flop, often in raised & reraised pots.Re-buys were being taken almost every hand -there were 299 from 105 entrants.

As usual the Aussies performed well.Mel Judah, the well-known poker pro, finished 4th ( ATS 35,260),and Phil Cannon, former dealer at Crown Casino in Melbourne & now based in Moscow, came in 3rd ( ATS 47,020).

Total prizemoney was ATS 404,000 - not too bad for an ATS 1000 entry fee.
