Event #6: No Limit Hold 'em

JohnnyD from Scottsdale, Arizona Captures the No-Limit Hold'emEvent

Attention: All players who have won a seat in the "Bubble" Tournament scheduled for April 19, it has been moved up to 10 a.m. to avoid any conflect with the Championship Event.

The WSOP Super Satellite held last night created a prize pool of $4,100. They will be begin at 8:00 p.m. nightly with rebuys for the first three levels and a double add-on. All money will be paid in cash.

One table $110 buy-in No-Limit Hold'em satellites will begin at 6:00 p.m. nightly with a $1,000 winner take all.

Today's $230 No-Limit Hold'em event drew 45 players and created a prize pool of $8,730.

Final table play began at 4:30 with a $25 ante and $150-$300 blinds.

The final table was comprised of nine players, eight money finishes and one bubble seat was given away.

The first casualty was Mike "Shoes" Gamboni who finished 9th and was the lucky recipient of the bubble seat.

Shortly after Mike's elimination, Bob Mauser's luck ran out and he had to settle for 8th place and $262.

A few hands later, Howard Coren was all-in on his big blind and flopped two pair with 8-3. Klaas was his only challenger holding K-3. Klaas was trailing with one pair until the river produced a king which sent Howard home in 7th place with $349.

At 5:10 p.m. the blinds increased to $200-$400 with a $50 ante.

There were no casualties in that level and at 5:45 the blinds jumped to $300-$600 with a $100 ante.

Ten minutes into the new level Hassan Kamoei went all-in with pocket nines against Dave Lawler who was holding pocket rockets. The board came A-7-5-10-4 and Dave won with a pair of aces sending Hassan home in 6th place with $436.

Three hands later, Larry Berry was on the big blind, Rich Maine raised, Larry reraised all-in with his last $100 and Rich called. Larry turned over 8-4 and Rich showed A-6. The flop came Q-A-9 giving Rich a pair of aces. The turn produced another nine and Larry was drawing dead. Larry had to settle for 5th place and $524.

They were down to four players and Rich had the chip lead with $18,000, JohnnyD was in second with $13,100, Dave was hanging on to third with $7,500 and Klaas was trailing the pack with $6,000.

At 6:20 p.m. the blinds increased to $400-$800 with antes staying at $100.

On the seventh hand Dave was on the small blind and moved all-in for $8,300. JohnnyD was the big blind and made the call. Dave turned over J-6 offsuit and JohnnyD had pocket eights. The board came 8-A-2-6-5 and Johnny won with a set of eights. Dave was forced to take 4th place and $611.

At 6:30 they were down to the final three players, JohnnyD was now in the lead with $20,800, Rich was in second with $18,400 and Klaas was still trailing with $6,400.

Twenty minutes later, on the thirteenth hand on Friday the 13, the final three players made a money deal and JohnnyD was declared the winner. Klaas had clawed his way into 2nd place and Rich had dropped to 3rd place. Rich won $1,048 for 3rd and Klaas took $2,008 for 2nd. Johnny collected $3,492 for his 1st place finish.
