Tournament Report
David Morris Holds On For the Victory
The 5th event of Winnin' o' the Green was the $335 buy-in No Limit Hold'em tournament with $300 multiple rebuys. A field of 239 vied for a share of the $133,172 prize pool helped by 259 rebuys. The final table started at level 15 with 1K ante and 4K/8K blinds. David Morris arrived as the chip leader holding 362,000 of the 1,476,000 chips in play.
It only took two hands to see our first elimination as Eric Chhor raised to 22k preflop. Thung Huynh raised all in and Chhor called immediately holding pocket Kings. He had Huynh in bad shape who held Ad-Kc. The board came 9-8-6 all diamonds giving Huynh an Ace high flush draw. The turn brought the Jack of diamonds leaving Chhor drawing dead and eliminating him in 10th place for $1,665.
Couple hands later Farzin Akhtar was all in holding J-9 on a flop of J-7-Q. Benjamin Nguyen called with K-Q and was ahead with a pair of Queens. After the turn came an Ace and river came a 3, Akhtar did not improve his pair of Jacks and was out in 9th place for $2,000.
On the very next hand George Yutuc raised all in from under the gun with K-Q. David Morris called with pocket 3's. After the board came 10-8-7-A-2 Morris' pair of 3's were enough to knock Yutuc out in 8th place for $2,665.
Pham Khang went all in holding A-Q and was called by David Morris who held A-K. After the board came 3-6-5-5-8 neither player improved their hand but Morris' King kicker was enough to eliminate Khang in 7th place for $3,330.
On hand #12 Nikhil Gera was all in with K-J against Daniel Dahan's pocket 10's. The flop of 5-7-8 kept Dahan's pair of 10's in the lead. The turn came a 10 giving Dahan a set so now Gera needed a 9 to make a straight to stay alive. However it was not meant to be as the river paired the 7 giving Dahan a full house knocking out Gera in 6th place for $4,660.
It would be a long while before our next elimination. On hand #55 Benjamin Nguyen was all in with pocket 7's against Daniel Dahan's pocket Kings. The board of 9-A-A-9-2 gave Dahan a better two pair sending Nguyen out in 5th place for $5,995.
Doug Dohring was getting short stacked and put his last chips in with Kd-7d against Thung Huynh's A-T. The flop of 4d-5d-2 gave Dohring a flush draw. The turn came an 8 and river paired the 4 and Huynh's Ace high was enough to send Dohring out in 4th place for $7,990.
After Dohring's elimination there was discussion of a chip count deal by the remaining 3 players. It was after 6am and the players were ready to call it. David Morris was the chip leader and declared winner of event #5.
