Tournament Report

Joseph Cadette Captures First And Collects $58,491

Just shy of last year’s record number, 1341 players anted up $300 to enter the 2009 Foxwoods Poker Classic No-Limit Hold’em Shoot-out. Single table shoot-outs were held at 10 am and 1 pm and the top three players on each table advanced to the 4 pm Finals. A total of 405 winners returned at 4 pm to pursue the prize pool of $337,947! By curfew there were 45 players remaining; they resumed play at Noon on Tuesday and by 4 pm the Final Table was underway. After just under two hours of play, the final five reached an agreement on an equity chop which left Joe Cadette of Leominster, MA, claiming the Championship Trophy and commemorative leather jacket.

The short-stacks in 5 of the first 6 called all-in hands met their demise. After the first called all-in hand, Laura Church was able to double-up against eventual champion Joe Cadette, reducing Joe’s stack by $150k. The next five potential eliminating hands did just that. Jessie Hettrick of Meriden, CT moved all-in with 6’s for $76k. He was called by Joe and Chris MacNeil. Joe and Chris checked it down and Joe’s pocket 10’s would win beating Chris’ AcQc as the board did nothing for Jessie or Chris. Jessie earned $3,210 for 10th place. Only a couple of hands went by before Chris MacNeil raised to $100k before the flop and was called by Al Lussier of Middlebury, CT. The flop came up 5cQc10s and Al with pocket 10,s would push allin with his last $180k. Chris with QdJd called and with runner-runner J’s, Al was left with 9th and $5,133.

Timothy Lenane from West Roxbury, MA would raise all-in with his last $70k with Ks10s and was quickly called by Joe with pocket Q’s. The board did nothing for Tim but relegate him to 8th place and an $8,618 payday. Mark Brown would raise all-in from the button position with pocket 2’s and was quickly called by Chris, the small blind, with A8 off. The flop of 7KA followed by 9 and K left Mark heading home to Windsor Locks, CT with $11,997 for 7th.

Steve Fiorentini was next to be called after moving all-in with A4 off. He was called by chip leader Joe with Ac10c. The board came-up 9/10/4/Q/2 hitting each of their low cards and leaving Steve of Winchester, MA in 6th, realizing $15,377 for his efforts. With Joe and Chris enjoying a sizable chip advantage over Laura Church, Dan Thelen, and Brett Skolnick, the final five had a short discussion, and decided that the remaining prize pool would be divided. Joe Cadette was declared the $300 No-Limit Hold’em Shoot-out Champion for 2009!
