Tournament Report
TODD REBELLO TAKES IT DOWN FOR $8,897!!
The 2009 Foxwoods Poker Classic $400 Limit Hold’em Championship went to Todd Rebello of Oak Bluffs, MA. The final six contestants reached an agreement which left $1,793 the leather jacket and the trophy up for grabs. Todd was the short stack of the final six, but battled for five hours to seize the trophy and $8,897.
The Championship began on Tuesday with 238 players and a total prize pool of $80,080. 16 players returned at
Noon on Wednesday and in 45 minutes, we were down to the final table. Shortly thereafter, William Boucher of Somerset, MA, was all-in for his last 18K with 9s6h. Hershel Short had Ah2s and with the board showing two pair 7’s& 5’s, Hershel’s Ace left William with $1,414 for 10th place. Next to leave was Al Capozzi, who pushed his last $12k,
after the flop came-up 5hKc9s, calling Jim Bucci. Al had KsJc to Jim’s KhQc and with 3c8h to finish the board, Jim’s Q finished Al. Al headed back to Carver, MA with $1,779 for his efforts. Hershel Short of Coventry, RI was all-in (Kh10d) with his last $16k after the flop (3h8c10h) gave him top pair. Jim called with pocket J’s and with no help from the turn and river (5d3s), Hershel would settle for 8th and $2,586. Robey Rossi, who was the short stack to start the final table, would raise all-in before the flop with 6s9s, and was called by Noel Shankey with As5s.
The board turned-up 5c10h10d7cAc, and Robey would head back to Needham, MA with $3,474 for 7th.
Before the final six would begin play, they reached an agreement which gave the two chip leaders $11,000 each
and the remaining four would each get $8,000. This left $1,793, the jacket, trophy, and championship left to play for.
Play continued for over two hours before we would lose two players in one hand. With the blinds at 6K/12K, Peter
O’Neill raised to $24k and was called by Tom McMahon’s final $16k and Jim Bucci’s final $18k. Peter had KhQc,
Tom showed Jd4c and Jim had pocket 5’s. The board (As8cKsKcAs) gave Peter K’s full and left Tom and Jim in 6th and
5th respectively. Tom would head back to Holbrook, NY with $8,000 while Jim took $11,000 home to Hollywood, FL.
Noel Shankey of Yonkers, NY would bet his last $10k after the flop (10d7s10h) with 9h7h, and was called by Peter
with KcQs. The turn was 6d, but the river (Kh) gave Peter K’s and relegated Noel to 4th. Noel benefited from the chop
as he cashed-in for $11,000. It took over an hour before Joe Pitti of East Meadow, NY would be eliminated. With the
blinds at 10k/20k, Joe would raise before the flop with KsQh and be called by Peter with Js10s. Joe came out betting
after the flop (10h5s3d) and was called. Joe moved his last $25k after the turn showed Ah...Peter called. The river (6h)
left Joe in 3rd with an $8,000 payday.
Peter O’Neill of Rothesay, New Brunswick and Todd played heads-up for over an hour, had similar chip stacks,
and decided to split the remaining prize and award the trophy for first and the jacket for the runner-up. A half hour later
Peter (Ac5c) called with his last $55k after the flop (10dJs6h) gave Todd (10h5d) 10’s. The 10’s held-up and Todd
captured the Trophy, while Peter picked up the commemorative leather jacket.
And Todd Rebello was the Foxwoods Poker Classic $400 Limit Hold’em Champion for 2009!
