Tournament Report

THE TROPHY & $41,605 GO TO MATTHEW BRADY!

The 189 entrants who began play on Sunday in the 2009 Foxwoods Poker Classic $1500 No-Limit Championship were pursuing a prize pool of $252,078. Eleven returned at Noon to vie for the top prize and when the contest was over, a four way chop left Matthew Brady of Havertown, PA, as the winner of the Championship
Trophy, and $41,605! The commemorative leather jacket, along with $36,000 went to Antonio “Bagels” Cavezza.

It took only ten minutes before we would get to the Final Table. Michael “Hollywood” Painter of Hampton, NH, took a chance with 8c9c raising to 16k. Gene Fouksman would move all-in and after deep thought, Hollywood called with his last 77k. Gene had pocket 10’s and with no help from the board (Ah2c7dKhJs) for
Hollywood, he would settle for 10th and $4,789. It took almost an hour before we would lose our next player. Joe Cutler would move all-in with As10s with his last 83k. He was quickly called by Matthew with AhQd. The flop (6h7c5s) did nothing for either player, but the 4d on the turn gave Joe four outs for a chop. Unfortunately for him the Ad came on the river and Joe would be heading back to Bay Shore, NY with $5,801 for 9th place. Jonathan Aguiar of Las Vegas, NV found himself with pocket K’s facing a raise to 70k by Matthew who was holding AcKd.

Jonathan would push his last 126k and be called by Matthew with AcKd. The flop (4d7s3d) gave some comfort to Jonathan but the Qd on the turn turned up the anxiety and the 7d on the river gave Matthew the flush and left Jonathan without a paddle, holding onto 8th and $8,444. Scott Hastings would move all-in with pocket J’s with his last 72k. Much to his disappointment he was called by Ryan Welch with pocket K’s. Ryan hit a K on the turn
leaving Scott in 7th and taking back $11,218 to Hampton Bays, NY. Two hands later David Zeitlin of Brooklyn, NY also would raise all-in with pocket J’s with his last 72k. David was called by Ryan but this time with As10c.

The flop (9d10d9s)gave both of them two pair, but the 10h on the turn gave Ryan 10’s full and with the 8c on the river, David would finish in 6th with $14,116 for his efforts. Jason Rice, all the way from Kenosha, WI, would push his last 90k in with 9h10h and be called by Matthew with pocket J’s. Jason had hope when the flop
(6hQh10d) gave him a pair and a flush draw, but the 4c and 7d to finish, finished his run leaving him in 5th with $17,267.

The final four reached an agreement to share the remaining prize pool which left Eugene Fouksman of Manalapan, NJ in 4th with $35,500, Antonio “Bagels” Cavezza of Huntington Station, NY in 3rd with $36,000 and the commemorative leather jacket, Ryan Welch from Nashville, TN in 2nd also with $36,000, and Matthew Brady as the 2009 Foxwoods Poker Classic $1500 No-Limit Hold’em Champion!
