Tournament Report
$40,655 TO THE FIRST PLACE
WINNER FRANK LISENO!
A total of 609 players entered the $500 No-Limit Hold’em event in the 2009 Foxwoods Poker Classic with a total
prize pool of $259,921 on the line, Frank Liseno battled from the middle of the pack to secure the victory. The final table
took almost five hours before Frank, a resident of Holden, MA was able to claim the Championship Trophy, commemorative
leather jacket and the First Place prize of $40,655!
Of the players that started on Monday, twenty four returned at noon today to compete for the remainder of the prize
pool.
The final table got underway just before 3 pm and within twenty minutes Donald Russell of New Milford, CT called
Adam Lippert’s all-in with pocket 5’s. Adam turned over pocket K’s and with a board of 10c6c10s2dQs Donald was the 10th
place winner of $5,000.
Charles Godaitis began the final table as one ot the short stacks and after watching his stack drop
to 114k, would call Christian Aguilera’s all-in, after he had previously raised to 20k. Charles was up against pocket J’s with
his Ah7s. The flop (8d5hJh) showed little hope as Chris hit the set, but the 9h on the turn gave Charles the flush draw, only to
see the Ad on the river and a 9th place finish for $5,000 to take back home to Lawrence, MA.
Derek Buonano of Tolland,
CT was the next to move all-in, this time with pocket 10’s. Unfortunately for him, he would run into Adam with pocket A’s
and with nothing for Derek from the board but to watch Adam hit a set, Derek would settle for $7,278 for 8th.
Chris and
Metin Guven-Esen would limp in to see the flop of Js4sKh. Chris bet 80k and was raised to 200k by Metin. Chris raised
all-in and was called by Metin with his last 173k. The Kh on the turn gave Chris trips and finished Metin’s run, relegating him
to 7th with a $9,877 payday to return to Wading River, NY.
Ed Ribeiro of Marstons Mills, MA would raise to 90k with
pocket Q’s, and be raised all-in by Adam with AhKs. Ed called with his last 350k and watched an ace come out on the flop.
The board finished at 4hAc6s3c5d and Ed would take $12,476 for his 6th place finish.
Down to five players and the blinds now at 10K/20K, Keith Crowder of Elkins Park, PA, pushed all-in with pocket
6’s. He was called by Adam with Ad10s, who would hit a 10 on the flop, and with no help for Keith the rest of the way, he
would head home in 5th with $15,075 for his efforts.
Fourth place was claimed by Michael Laiosa, a resident of Medford,
MA. Michael was all-in with his last 355k on Qd10d, and was called by Frank with Ad10s. Frank hit the ace on the flop and
needed nothing more as Michael would take down $17,675.
With 3 players remaining, they were each fairly close in their chip stacks and agreed to adjust the final three
payouts. Play continued for 1 1/2 hours before Christian Aguilera of Hicksville, NY would raise all-in with KcJc with his
last 360k. He was called by Frank with Kd10s. The flop of 2h7h6s left Chris feeling a little comfort but runner runner 8s9h
gave Frank the straight and finished Chris in 3rd earning $30,000.
A couple of hands later, and a very slight chip advantage
for Frank, would have him raising to 220k with KhJd. Adam Lippert of Brooklyn, NY raised all-in with pocket 9’s and was
called by Frank. The flop of AsKsQd left Adam deeply disappointed. The Kc on the turn and 4d on the river sealed the deal
for Frank and would leave Adam with $35,000 for 2nd.
Frank Liseno would become the 2009 Foxwoods Poker Classic
$500 No-Limit Champion collecting the Championship Trophy, Commemorative Leather Jacket, and $40,655.
