JOE EBANKS CLAIMS VICTORY AND TAKES $95,570 TO THE BANK!
A field of 48 players began play on Wednesday in pursuit of the title of the 2009 Foxwoods Poker
Classic $5000 No-Limit Championship and a prize pool totaling $223,488. Seven players returned at noon on
Thursday and after more than 5 hours of play, Joe Ebanks of Stow, OH, emerged as the recipient of the
Championship Trophy, commemorative leather jacket and $95,570!!
Initially the payouts were to be distributed to the top 5, but the returning 'Magnificent Seven' agreed
to take some off the top three spots to add $5,000 for both 6th and 7th places. Allie Prescott, who last week had
won the $1,000 No-Limit event, was down to his last 20k, and would move all-in with Js8d. He was called by
Bobby with AdQh. The flop (Qd6d9h) gave Bobby Q's and with 7cJd to complete the board, Allie would finish
7th. He returned home to Memphis, TN with $5,000. Bobby Delaronde of Kahnwake, Quebec, would be all-in
with his last 68k after calling Robert's all-in. Bobby with As6s would be up against AhKs, and with a pair of
10's and an Ace on the board, Robert's K kicker would relegate Bobby to 6th with a $5,000 payday.
After the AsKdQd came out on the flop, Dino Moustakis would move all-in with his last 30k on AcQh.
Spencer would call with Ad9d hoping for the flush. The 7d on the turn completed the flush and left Dino taking
$11,174 back home to Danvers, MA for his 5th place finish. An hour would pass before George Caragiorgas of
Laval, Quebec would move all-in after the Kc2hJs on the flop gave him K's with a Q kicker. Robert Rosen
called with Ks3c and hit the 3 on the river and George would settle for 4th and $22,349. Spencer Stacey, the last
of the three Canadians from Quebec who made it to the final seven, would call Robert's all-in with his last 126k.
Spencer with AcJc would be squaring off against Ad10s. The flop (8d2c10d) gave Robert 10's and with Kh8h to
complete the board, Spencer would also complete his run at the $5k No-Limit event with a 3rd place finish for
$31,523.
After over four hours of play the two finalists were ready to get underway. Play continued for about
half an hour with both players maintaining comparable chip stacks, when Joe would raise to 15k. Robert
followed with a raise to 60k and after some thought by Joe, he finally raised all-in. Without hesitation Robert
called and was surprised to see Joe turn over pocket Q's. Robert had pocket 5's and when the board came-out
2d6sAhAc7C, Robert Rosen of Greenwich, CT would finish 2nd earning $52,872.
