The $330 Limit Hold’em event drew 95 players and created a prize pool of $28,500.
At 6:18 the remaining ten players went to one table but only nine would make the money. There were 15 minutes left at the $600-$1,200 limit with $300-$600 blinds.
Just minutes before the dinner break a player was eliminated and the final nine players were in the money.
At 6:30 the players were sent on a one-hour dinner break with three minutes remaining at the $600-$1,200 limit.
At 7:35 the limit increased to $800-$1,600 with $400-$800 blinds.
Five minutes later Jon Ogren was eliminated. Bernard Ko raised, Rick Shepherd called and Jon called on his big blind. The flop came 4-3-J, Jon bet, Bernard called and Rick folded. The turn card was a five, Jon bet, Bernard raised, Jon reraised and Bernard called. The river card came a nine, Jon bet his remaining $1,300 and Bernard called. The was the classic set over set hand. Jon had flopped a set of threes and Bernard had flopped a set of jacks. Jon was forced to take and early out in 9th place and collected $855.
Four hands later Goran Gogic raised $1,600 all-in and George McMaster called from his big blind. Goran showed K-10 of hearts and George turned over A-Q of spades. The board came 3h-Qh-3x-6x-4h and George rivered the heart flush to beat Goran’s pair of queens. Goran took home $1,026 for 8th place.
At 8:00 Rick was the next casualty. Ralph raised, Fereidoun Farboud called and Rick called all-in for $1,600. The flop came Q-8-K, Ralph checked, Fereidoun bet and Ralph folded. Rick was all-in holding A-10 and Fereidoun showed A-K for a pair of kings. The turn card was a nine and the river came a six. Rick collected $1,254 for his 7th place finish.
Ten minutes later Ralph was sent to the rail. Fereidoun raised, Ralph reraised, Fereidoun reraised to put Ralph all-in and Ralph made the call. Fereidoun showed A-Q and Ralph was in the lead with his pocket treys until the flop came A-J-4. The turn card was another four and the river card came a ten. Ralph finished 6th and added $1,568 to his bankroll.
At 8:15 the $100 chips were raced off and the limit increased to $1,000-$2,000 with $500-$1,000.
At 8:35 John Womack called, George called, Bernard called and Fereidoun checked the big blind. The flop came 8-5-6, Bernard checked, Fereidoun checked, John checked, George bet, Bernard raised and George called. The turn card came an ace, George bet, Bernard raised and George called all-in. George showed 4-2 and Bernard turned over 5-2. The river was a six and Bernard’s two pair held up. George vacated his seat in 5th place and pocketed $2,024.
At 8:55 the remaining four took a short break with Bernard in the lead with $40,000, Fereidoun was in second with $33,500, John was in third with $17,500 and Jim Weatherby was trailing with only $4,000.
At 9:00 the limit went to $1,500-$3,000 with $500-$1,500 blinds.
Eight hands later John went head-to-head with Fereidoun and John’s A-8 lost to Fereidoun’s 7-2 when the river card came a deuce. John was left with one $500 chip.
Three hands later John was all-in on his big blind. Jim called and Fereidoun called. The flop came J-7-6 and both players checked. The turn card came a three, Fereidoun bet and Jim folded. John showed K-5 and Fereidoun turned over A-7 for a pair of sevens. The river card was a six and Fereidoun’s pair of sevens took the pot. John was sent home with $2,708 for his 4th place finish.
At 9:25 Jim was all-in on his big blind and Fereidoun called. Fereidoun showed 8-3 and as luck would have it Jim was drawing slim with 2-3. The board came J-7-4-K-A and Fereidoun’s eight played. Jim took 3rd place and collected $3,705.
It was now heads-up between Fereidoun and Bernard with Bernard in the lead with $55,000 to Fereidoun’s $40,000.
The two players agreed on a money deal and continued to play for the trophy and the TOC qualification.
Bernard chipped away at Fereidoun for thirty-five minutes until he had Fereidoun down to $3,000. Fereidoun was on the small blind and called all-in with his last $1,500 with 8-4 and Bernard had 7-5. The board came 9-2-7-K-5 and Bernard made two pair on the river for the win.
Fereidoun took 2nd place and collected $5,672.
Bernard was the winner of the Limit Hold’em event and received $9,690 for his 1st place finish. Bernard took home the clock and earned a TOC qualification.
