Tournament Report

Donald Walters Takes No Limit Title

Event #2 of the Deepstack Mini Series was 192 players strong at the beginning. With 7,000 chips for all who purchased the Bonus Chips, the final 10 players were set at 4am after 9 hours of play. The blinds were 1500 4K/8K and play was fast from the start.

On hand #3, shortstack Steve Waggoner was all-in with an A-10 but ran into Doug Hill’s suited big slick (Ad-Kd). The board came Qd-Q-6d-7d-A and Doug Hill hit his flush on the turn and had Steve drawing dead on the river. Steve Waggoner, a firefighter from Torrance, CA finished in 10th place earning himself $485.

Hand #16 had four players seeing a flop while Rich Bailey was the only player all-in. After a flop of 8-7-6, Donald Walters applied the all-in pressure of 55,000 chips and got one player to fold and Doug Hill to call. Rich showed a Qd-7d, Donald held 8-6, and Doug had As-5s. The turn 5 and river 10 help no one and Donald Walters takes the pot with two pair. Rich Bailey was eliminated in 9th place for $560.

On hand #26, Frank Rite pushed all-in for his last 38,000 with pocket Jacks and was call by the button and the small blind. The board of Ah-8-4h-A-Q was checked down and Mel Wiener showed K-Q for top two. Frank mucked his Jacks after seeing his hand cracked on the river (again and again). Frank Rite finished in 8th place and earned $630.

It would be close to an hour before the next elimination occurred. Doug Hill called the all-in from Mel Wiener. Mel’s move with 10-6 ran into Doug’s A-Q. The board fell J-8-2-7-7. Doug’s Ace earned the pot and Mel was eliminated in 7th place. Mel took home $700 for his final table efforts.

On the very next hand, Tony Fesi was all-in preflop with a K-Q but was called on the button by Hoang Ta who held a dominating A-Q. The board was J-3-2-10-10 and the dominating A-Q held up. Tony Fesi finished in 6th place for $980.

The remaining five players elected to look at a chip count as the clock approached 6am. The chip count deal was quickly accepted and Donald Walters held the chip lead which earned him the title.
