Tournament Report
Edwin Tekmar Starts and Ends as the Chip Leader
The 2009 Mini Series of Poker continued with Event #13, a $170 buy-in No Limit Hold'em tournament. A field of 252 players vied for a share of the $36,666 prize pool. Final table play began with 12:02 remaining at level 16 with blinds at 6K-12K with a 2K ante. Edwin Tekmar had the chip lead going in with 310,000 of the 1,754000 chips in play.
Hand #8 saw our first elimination as Henry Machado was all in with pocket 9's against Charles Miller's K-J. Machado's 9's were still good on the flop of 4-10-A. The turn came a Jack giving Miller the lead. The river card came a King giving Miller two pair sending Machado out in 10th place for $460.
A few hands later Keith Wieland had his last chips in when he went all in from the button with K-10. Kevin Tang called from the big blind with A-5. The board came A-4-4-8-10 and Tang's pair of aces was enough to send Wieland out in 9th place good for $550.
Play continued for a couple of orbits without and elimination until hand #26 where Robert Gates was all in before the flop with A-J. Remy Cheng went all in with A-K. The board came A-10-7-8-7 and Cheng's pair of Aces with King kicker sent Gates out in 8th place for $730.
On hand #31, George Smith raised pre flop with K-J. Remy Cheng came over the top with pocket 7's and Smith called. The window card was a 7 giving Cheng a set and had Smith drawing dead. Smith received $920 for finishing in 7th place.
Blinds and antes went up to 20K-40K/5K. Craig Chait was all in with A-K and was up against Einav Limor and Kevin Tang. Limor and Tang checked down a board of 4-7-2-J-2 and Limor showed 6-4 which was enough to win the pot and send Chait out in 6th place for $1,285.
On the very next hand Charles Miller was all in with K-2 and ran into Kevin Tang's K-J. The board of A-9-4-10-9 did not improve either player's hand though Tang's Jack kicker played and sent Miller out in 5th place earning him $1,650.
Play was 4 handed for a few hands and at this point Edwin Tekmar, who was short stacked at one point, held the chip lead. The remaining players discussed a chip count deal and after the tournament staff ran the numbers everyone was in agreement with what they were to receive. Edwin Tekmar was thus declared winner of event #13.

BIOGRAPHY
Edwin Tekmar runs his own pool building company of over 20 years. He has played poker for 2.5 years now and has had success in tournaments all across the Los Angeles area card rooms. His primary focus is tournaments. Tekmar's strategy is to switch gears and keep everyone guessing. While the chip leader coming into the final table he had become a short stack. He never had any doubt he would come back and win the tournament and just waited for the right time and hands to make a move.
