Garrett Levrini Takes Down Wins Event #2 of the 2009 Legends of Poker
The 2009 Legends of Poker had its second event at their newly remodeled Events Center with a $300 buy-in No Limit Hold’em tournament. The 2-day event began with a total of 184 players and a prize pool of $53,544. In addition to first prize of $19,804, the winner also received a championship ring. Final table play began at level 15 with blinds at 5k-10k with a 2k ante. Garrett Levrini entered as the chip leader holding 422,000 of the 2,020,000 chips in play.
On the very first hand Shawn McBride raised all-in. Josh Lachman called the all-in raise but folded after Garrett Levrini re-raised all-in. The board came 4-5-2-6-10 as Levrini pocket Queens held up over McBride’s A-K sending the short stack out in 10th place for $940.
Three hands later, Há Pham raised all-in pre-flop with Q-J and was called by Josh Lachman with 9-10. A 8-7-J flop gave Há top pair but that was no match for Josh’s Jack high straight. The turn was a 4 and the river a 6 as Há Pham was sent out in 9th place for $1070.
Hand #6 saw Kristen Lapari with A-9 and Benjamin Tang with pocket 10’s all-in against Haytham Shamaoun’s A-K. Benjamin Tang had the early lead with the 2-5-8 flop however the turn brought the 9 of clubs putting four clubs on the board giving Abraham an unbeatable K high Flush. The river was a 4 as Kristen Lapari exited the tournament in 8th place for $1,340 and Benjamin Tang left in 7th with $1,875.
On the 10th hand Tim Ziegler raised all-in pre-flop form the button with A-10. Julio Marines called the all-in with K-Q from the small blind. The flop of K-6-6 gave Julio the lead. The turn came an 8 as Julio’s two pair were still best and the 8 on the river could not help Tim Ziegler who was sent out of the tournament in 6th place for $1,875.
One round later Julio Marines pushed in his last chips with pocket deuces against Haytham Shamaoun’s pocket 5’s. The flop came 5-2-J with Abraham’s set of 5’s over Julio’s set of 3’s. The turn was a 9 leaving Julio with only one out and one card to come. The river came a 4 as Julio Marines was eliminated in 5th place for $2,410.
The remaining four players discussed a chip count and after the staff ran the numbers the players were in agreement to a deal. Garrett Levrini was declared the winner of the Legends of Poker second event and received the ring.

BIOGRAPHY
Garrett Levrini is a poker player/massage therapist. He has played poker for 7 years. While Garrett plays cash games from time to time he prefers playing tournaments, specifically No Limit Hold’em. His strategy at the final table was to play aggressive while trusting his initial reads of the players and the situations, and use his chip stack to put pressure on the shorter stacks. Garrett believes the key hand for him at the final table was a head’s up situation with Julio Marines. In that hand Garrett was able to call three shots from Julio while only holding pocket 8’s.
