Tournament Report

Event #12 of the Gulf Coast Poker Championships was the $550 No Limit Hold’em event. This was the last event before the main event which served as some as a primer for some of the players. The field was 281 strong vying for a total prize pool of $136,285.

The final table was down to seven players when we picked up the action! Carol Farley managed to get her chips all-in on a flop of 4-5-7 holding 7-8. The bad news for her was that her opponent held 7-9. The turn was a J and the river was a 3. Carol Farley was sent to the rail in 7th place earning $5,451.

Sitting in the small blind with blinds at 5k/10k,Richard King made a raise to 30k. Roston Stokes decided to put in his shortstack and King made the call tabling A-3 versus Stoke’s K-2. The flop was A-Q-3, the turn was another Q and the river was another A. Roston Stokes finished 6th earning $6,814.

On a flop of 5-6-10, Chan Pelton made the bet of 26k and action got over to Shane Howeth. Shane wasted no time sticking his last 117k in and Pelton called. Shane had the pair of 5’s with his 5-3 and Pelton held the up and down straight draw with 7-8. The turn was a useless 2, but the river was the 7 and the higher pair for Pelton sent Shane Howeth packing in 5th place earning $8,177.

The final four players decided on a deal and the winner was Richard Hughes who wins $40,888 and the trophy!
