Tournament Report

Event #2: Limit Hold'em

Report by Debbie Burkhead

In yesterday's "Tournament Results" I made a slight error in the prize money for the hole-in-one contest. It should have been one million not one billion, sorry guys.

A couple of changes have taken place in the schedule, first, the seven-card stud on Thursday, April 12, has been changed to Crazy Pineapple and will start at 2:00 p.m. instead of noon.

Second, the nightly limit hold'em shootouts scheduled at 10:00 p.m. have been canceled.

Third, there will be two super satellites a night, 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

One table satellites will still start at 9:00 a.m. but the afternoon satellites will now start at 5:00 p.m. until midnight.

A few notable poker players were spotted today, such as: Perry Green, from Alaska, Mark Tenner and his lovely wife, Lisa, from Las Vegas, Mike O'Malley, a journalist from Card Player, Ed Smith, a local from 29 Palms, Pat Fleming from Las Vegas and Buddy Ashmore from St. Albert, Alberta Canada who rolled in this morning and took 2nd place in the limit hold'em event.

On with the final table results . . .

The final table began at 6:30 with $500-$1,000 blinds at the $1,000-$2,000. Kurt Hanneman made his second appearance and Peter Gidlua who went out on the bubble in the first tournament also made the final table.

Shortly after the final table began Max Ralph was the first casualty after going all-in with pocket sevens against John Urwin. Max took 9th place and $124.

A few hands later Jo Ann Siegel called a raise from John Urwin. The flop came 2-2-4, Jo Ann bet all-in with her remaining $300 and John called. Jo Ann showed A-7 and John rolled over pocket 10's. Jo Ann got no help on the turn or the river and had to settle for 8th place and $150.

Just before the dinner break Peter Gidula ran into bad luck and was eliminated in 7th place. Peter took home $210 but has a chance to win a cruise in the bubble tournament due to his 10th place finish in the first limit hold'em event.

At 7:00 they took a dinner break with only six players remaining.

At 8:00 the final six began play at the $1,500-$3,000 limit with $700-$1,500 blinds.

A few hands into the new limit Joe Fedak went all-in against John. Joe showed J-6 of spades and John had A-10. The flop came K-10-8 with two spades, which gave Joe hopes of making a flush but the turn card and the river did not produce any spades and John's pair of ten's held up. Joe took 6th place and $270.

On the next hand Kurtis Hanneman was on the big blind, Jack Larson raised and Kurtis called all-in. Kurtis showed K-J and Jack turned over A-6. The board came Jc-As-Qc-4c-7c and Jack's ace of clubs gave him the nut flush. Kurtis took 5th place and $330.

At 8:35 the remaining four players discussed a money deal and after all agreed, Jack Larson was declared the winner, Buddy Ashmore took 2nd place, John Urwin finished 3rd and Antonette captured 4th place.

Congratulations Jack!

For those of you interested in playing in the golf tournament, it will be a scramble format. Each team will consist of an A, B, C, & D player. Each player on a team will tee off and the next shot will be taken by all team members from where the player who hit the ball the closest to the pin. This will be repeated throughout the tournament.

You can assemble you own team of four or you will be assigned to a team.

The $210 golf tournament package includes:

  • Green fees
  • Golf cart fees
  • Practice balls
  • A Tournament Prize Pac valued at $20
  • Closest to the pin contest
  • Longest drive contest
  • Prize money of approximately $5,000.
Space is limited so sign up today! The tee time is 8:00 a.m. and will be played on the Mountain View course at the Desert Willow Golf Resort.

As I mentioned yesterday, there will be one lucky player to have a chance at winning "One Million Dollars" by making a hole-in-one on the 18th hole. Ladies, I tried to get Bonnie to change the distance for the women to half the distance for "Half-a-million-dollars" but I lost the battle.
