SUPPOSE THEY HELD A SATELLITE AND EVERYONE CAME

The BARRACUDA

Day one of the 5th Annual Australasian Poker Championships at CROWN Casino in Melbourne sees the week kick off with a SUPER SUPER Satellite for the Main Event, a 5200 No Limit Holdem to be played on Saturday 12th. I arrived "fashionably" 15 minutes early only to learn that it was a lockout at 80 players. There were people everywhere, the room was already packed with punters playing live games, I'm guessing the turnout caught everyone a little surprised. I was 4th on the alternate list.

Usual 1st day introductions, a warm welcome to all the English pros who had turned up ( more about them in other reports ) and on with the game at 6:30 . First hand at table 8, saw my good friend Glen "GOFOR" from Adelaide get all his chips in with pocket Aces against Ram Vaswami of England and his pocket Jacks, REBUY FOR RAM, welcome to Australia ( both actually eventually got a seat so good news all round ).

I got in after about 20 minutes and decided to play the "waiting game," plenty of aggression around without me contributing.

Keith "Bendigo" Sloan, tournament director continued to give the overseas guests a good ribbing, I guess, a good time was had by all. Just a short report this time.

Final result was 9 seats with $200 for 10th ( worst skunk hole payout of all time I suspect)

My personal story finishes on a high note, the wait and see approach finds 9 9 in the UTG, 2 full tables remaining, all-in doubles up plus ante's against Ace King off. On the very next hand Ross Boatman, noted player and actor, from England puts half his considerable stack in about 3rd to speak. All check around to me in BB. I slowly open my cards to find Ace Ace. Quickly put him all-in, he shows A K, very nasty. A King on the turn gives some moments of anguish but no miracle on the end and I am chip leader, a seat in the Big One for me.

My friend Glenn, from above, sitting in seat 7 described my delight as the "Aces Dance," as I was up and jigging a little too enthusiastically. I sought Ross out the next day to apologise, "none necessary" he said, "he would have done the same thing", so I thank him for taking my over enthusiasm so well.

Anyway on to the next events and I hope I’ll be writing about the "Aces Dance" at the end of next week.
