A CHIP and A CHAIR

Everyone just loves to run out this expression but IT happened in today’s event ( with a little poetic license). Not my favourite game, this one – so I did not play and payed little attention to it. Seventy two did start however including the Englishman Carlo Citrone who swore black and blue he had NEVER played the game before and had only entered to be able to have a "never played before and won" story to tell ( nearly did it). I actually arrived after the start to ensure I did not accidentally enter in the heat of the moment.
As for ALL events this week when the watch on Tournament Director’s Keith Sloan’s wrist says 12:30 "the cards are in the air" so I’m certain that this would have been the case on Saturday. When I wandered in many, of the "best" players were already engaged in live action games and the field had been reduced to 30.
The final table 7 not 8 because of a double knock out on the last hand – included Carlo and Ram from yesterday’s story – might be able to play, these English chappies!
The Chip and the Chair came about at the 300 blind level, George had one $1000 blue chip left and needed 30% of it to blind so he did actually have a few more than one – but lets not ruin a good story.
George is George Macar from Belgium, I’m sorry to say I had not met him before congratulating him on eventually getting all 146 blue chips. I have seen him playing some of the side action, just going about the business of winning in a very quiet fashion unlike some of the other more outgoing champs. So heartiest congratulations to George for winning, what will possibly be the last Draw Tournament during the main Tournament week at CROWN.
The second placed player, Alex Rosser, needs two things said about him. Firstly, he is by far and away the best dressed poker player, male or female, I have ever seen. Not the gaudy super designer label type glamour but a most stylish understated type presentation and secondly I can only think of only 2 other people in all of poker who are as pleasant as Alex is at the poker table. ( that should get me onto his Christmas Card list at least if not into his will – LOL ) Anyway, enough of the platitudes, but sometimes it just isn’t about bullying tough- nut players and I’m glad.
Back to Carlo, I know his story because he accidentally got seated in our 20/40 HE game thinking it was Pot Limit, “what’s a Limit game” he asked. He proceeded to play EVERY Pot and play it like it was his last on earth won about 300 bought everyone a drink ( b4 starting to play ) and seemed to have great time before being spirited away to 200/400 Omaha. You just need to buy Aussies a drink and you are their friend for life. So to my VERY BEST FRIEND Carlo we thank you for the drink and taking our money.
