Tournament Report
| He ran with the bulls in Pamplona, but a greater thrill was running against 103 others, to win today’s No-Limit Hold’em Event. Asher Derei is a continental tournament player, having won nearly every major tournament in Europe. Also to his credit, Asher was the best all-around player at the Bicycle Club and 2 years ago won the Omaha High/Low Split Tournament, right here at the USPC.
In between traveling the world, hiking the Pyrenees, Thailand and Viet Nam, Asher takes time out to enter tournaments, hiking himself up to a prominent position, with respect and admiration. Climbing, hiking, traveling, experiencing adventure of all sorts, but reaching the apex with the birth of his 2 children...
Keep it up, Asher, you’re steppin’ in the right direction!
Irish Mike’ Pilkington, with the eye of the tiger, seized a 2nd place in today’s No-Limit Hold’em, by pouncing onto the final table as chip leader and continuing to devour through the limits. ‘Irish Mike’ married his wife Karen on St. Patrick’s Day and works by her side in their family real estate business, enjoying the sounds of Bob Seger and Eric Clapton.
In their absence, we can sing along and Take the old records off the tournament books and place your name in the USPC Event #12 and USPC Event #9. And as we ‘turn the page ‘ of No-Limit Hold’em, let it be said that, you looked wonderful tonight.
It’s the quiet ones you have to watch. Economics professor, Paul Wexler, consumed 3rd place, wasting no bets and playing his cards practically. With prudence, he approached the final table, 2nd in chip position and managed to make it a profitable event. Today’s economics lesson: The theory of supply, (104 participants) and demand (skill, patience, endurance and chip management) will produce a winner. Well taught!
