Tournament Recap: Ladies-Only Limit Hold 'em

Gale Bonotto topped 79 entrants to win the opening event of the Battle-of-the-Bay poker tournament at Lucky Chances. The festive mood carried well into the final table where nine women and nine smiles met to determine the Ladies-Only champ for 2000. Banter faded as the field thinned and the pressure went up. Seventy men stood with craned necks, cheering their favorites, applauding the finalists after each elimination.

The crowd buzzed, "Who is that in seat five?" Thahn Lee goes by "Crystal." She played with calm and confidence in her first tournament ever! Her husband Chris had coaxed her to enter, and he was bursting with excitement and pride at the third-place finish. During the last break, Crystal confided, "I'm scared." We're sure that Crystal had a ball.

Janey Lee (we call her Lee), a tough red-chip player, won second place after coming to the final table with a good stack, and waiting, and waiting, and waiting. Lee had only played two tournaments before this one, and she won one of those. Perhaps another tourny enthusiast in the making?

Not one to hide her emotions, Gale Bonotto was overjoyed after her flopped pair held up to win the final hand. Experience and heart had taken her to the top. Gale neatly summed up the thrill of victory with, "I'm overwhelmed."
