Tournament Report

"Mind the doors Sir – This elevator is going to the top"

Quick comment on event three the PL Omaha. Unfortunately the event, a one dayer, finished at 3:30 in the morning and I just can't keep staying up that late. So I'm sorry, no report for that event. The event was won by Joe "The Elegance" Beevers. Joe and his "Thehendonmob" mates made the trip "downunda" recently and I would just like to say you would be hard pressed to find anyone as pleasant as Joe in the poker community. So I apologize for not being able to give his victory full cover – still he got the POOWWWNDS so I'm sure he is not too unhappy.

First hand of the 500 pound PLHE saw Simon E get it all-in before the flop with A K of hearts. Willy thought it worth calling with his pair of Aces, no Kings on the flop but two red cards vaguely looking a bit heart-ish were there. River a heart and Simon has doubled up his meager 38K – Simon had stepped onto the express elevator. The only lady player on the final table Lieu found herself very short stacked with only 21K and on hand 3 of the final her A 10 was beaten by Brian's Kings. Lieu 9th today.

Willy as seems to be want leaves the table frequently to study the Daily Racing Form. He decided to join us though just long enough, when holding Aces, to eliminate Paul Maxfield Q 10, two low pairs on the flop. Blinds up to 4K/8K now: Andy in the SB makes it 24K before the flop and quick as a flash Simon in the BB makes it 48K to go Andy folds – "this is an express elevator sir please stand clear of the door." Andy made a 30K profit though several hands later when he cleverly bet an A K hand with an Axxxx board against Willy. At 3:50 the blinds go to 6/12 Andy again – Willy on the button makes it 30 to go and Andy re-pops to 102 a raise of 72 Willy folds. At 4:15 we lose Mr Winter A 3 raise 8k All-in vs Andy's Q 5 with a board of 5 10 10 J 9.

Blinds 8/16 now. Soon after Alex begins to lock up a top finish position when he gets Mike to put a total of 166K in before the flop with A J hearts vs Alex's A K, a Jack on the river no help to Mike as a King had been the first card flopped. The pot 342K, out of 910k on the table. Mike the low stack sees his day come to an end when Andy 6 6 finds one of two 6's on the river to beat Mike's 10 10. Mike 6th. Andy has his legs taken from under him when he is left with 2 x 100 chips when his K K is beaten by Simon's A 8, an Ace on the board. It was Simon who finished Andy off next hand; Andy a Q 10 Simon a 10 7, 10 on the flop and 7 on the river. Brian hadn't had too many chips all day and after spending a few in a hand against Willy put it all-in with A 4 finding Alex with 10 10, no Ace on board . Brian finishing a very creditable 4th in the event – having made the final table in the 7 card previously.

Blinds were bumped to 10K 20K and discussions took place. I had to go to dinner (well some things are very important) so the tournament director recorded the fact that Simon got Willy with a four-on-the-board heart flush and polished off Alex with A 2 vs A 8, a little 2 on the board being the reason for the victory. The express elevator had arrived at its destination.

I got the impression I saw three of the best players at the end today and expect we will hear of them again in the coming week.

All the best,

Chris "The Barracuda" Newton
