Tournament Report

"Chip, chip, chip –small steps are the best"

Quick recap from yesterday this was the chip situation of the four leaders in the 1000 pound PL OM. 1,140,000 in chips –

Ron Seymour 171K
Patrice Leplage 145K
Marc Brouchard 115K
Lally Khajuria 114K

I arrived a little late – unfortunately missing the first two to be eliminated today. I was reliably informed it was J Salonen in 17th place eliminated by M Wilner. M Sharazi as low chip count moved to the table with 7 and found himself next to be eliminated, he had Aces but Emanuel made Kings full and we were down to 16. Garry Bush claimed his first victim for the day making Aces up 3's putting paid to L Windish who had flopped two pair – the threes coming turn and river. Must have missed three because I was told this one also by the ever helpful "Vic" poker staff.

So at 4:00 pm the antes are 1K 1K and 2K nine minutes on the clock. Kevin O'D doubles his stack up after making Queens full and I believe it was early chip leader Ron who made the contribution. A little bit of grief ensued a short time later on the same table – no names, no pack drill – but I make mention of it to illustrate the almost total lack of problems and arguments the entire time I have been in the room. (More on this issue Thursday or Friday as there is a small break between BO and Jubilee Cup – the Poker Millions replacement and I will send in an article on "The Vic" etc).

Ron damaged by some early loses doubles up through Garry; back to 60K. I'm a bit hesitant here so I'll tread carefully – mustn't reveal too much. Mel Judah is a fairly close acquaintance of mine – as he is of most players associated with Australia. I watch his play fairly closely when I have the opportunity. The previous night he had taken his chip stack to 51K from 14 in 8 hands winning 5 of the 8 dealt, all he had played. Now I've seen him in this mood before and he usually does very well when up on that crest of the wave. He had continued with the process today as had Emanuel S on the other table also starting the second day with a slightly below average 54K .

Once again – usually seems to happen – Lally took down a huge pot and the scalp of Marc Brochard and damaged Chris Bjorin in the one pot. Marc – 9 8 7 6, Chris K K Q J one K suited, Lally A A 5 4 both Aces suited. The board 2 8 10 9 9 the Aces are good – pot over 240K. 13th place (no money until 10th) went to, regular top placed this week, Stephen Melville, Kevin's Aces not being threatened. Immediately down to 11 next hand when S Osman loses to Chris B's Queens up. Antes 2K 2K 4K at 16:55 and it is M Wilner the "one not to be paid" – Kevin O'D again making a lone pair of Jacks. Simon E collected the small prize when his three Kings (in his hand) lost to Ron's Aces and it's off to the final table.

Seat
1 Lally 285K
2 Garry 58K
3 Chris 50K
4 Mel 117K
5 Frixo 99K
6 Emanuel 125K
7 Ron 79K
8 Patrice 89K
9 Kevin 244K

Emanuel eliminates Chris and gets a slice of Ron's stack with his A A K J fairly early after the final table is set. Chris very short had 9 8 7 2 only a lone 9 to help but not enough. Antes 3 3 6 now. Lally slow plays quad Queens but Emanuel smells a trap and only loses a small amount. Lally gets a good bit of Garry's with Queens up on the turn in another hand and the "chip, chip, chip" referred to above is on the way. Kevin with A K K 8 gets all Patrice's chip the latter holding 7 6 5 4 to a 2 9 4 flop, 10 turn and 9 on the end and there are only six left. Five now when Lally makes Kings and eights holding A K Q 7 to Frixo's huge wrap holding J 9 7 6 to the 10 3 8 flop. Garry Bush makes trip 5’s on the river but Lally already had trip Aces on the turn so Garry leaves us collecting the 5th placed prize money – chip, chip small steps.

Gets a bit embarrassing now! The nightly tournament the 500 pound NLHE was due to start at 7:30pm and it was 7:27. I had to play – so the rest comes from Mel's description at dinner later (all confirmed by others). Mel collected a 316 K pot his Qd Jd 10 9 vs Emanuel's A A Q J double suited board K Q x 3 Ad, making the straight and the flush. He handed Emanuel 4th place when his K K 8 7 held up against K 7 4 4. Bit of chat amongst the three left and the final outcome is as you see, the hands not having too much relevance.

All the best,
