A total of 183 players started with $6,000 each in chips in the $3,000 buy-in 2-Day No Limit Hold'em Championship Event of the Bellagio Five Diamond World Poker Classic on Wednesday afternoon, but only 31 players remain for the final day of action to determine who wears the crown and who takes home first prize of $228,192.
The winner's money includes a $25,000 + $300 entry into the Bellagio Five Star Classic Championship Event in April, which is for the World Poker Tour (WPT) championship. A total prize pool of $532,530 was generated by the great turnout.
There's a strong European flavor to the second day field as eight Europeans, led by chip king Keith Hawkins of Ascot, England, made the cut. Hawkins amassed $77,400 for the lead, followed by two Californians (Jim Allen of Glendale with $67,800 and Erick Lindgren of Folsom with $65,800).
Also making the final day field were fellow Europeans Peter Eichardt of Stockholm, Sweden, with $59,900; Jan Lundberg of London, England; Peter Costa of Leicaster, England; Aiden Bennett of Dublin, Ireland; Surinder Sunar of Wolverhampton, England; Carlos Mortensen of Madrid, Spain; and Carlos Fuentes of Pamplona, Spain.
The tournament's remaining 31 players will take seats at four different tables, starting at noon on Thursday.
