EVENT #11 LADIES HOLD'EM
Monday, July 17, 2000
$130 BUY-IN w/ One Rebuy
$600/$600 in chips
BACK-TO-BACK
By Mike Paulle
K.C. Carter wasn't going to defend the title she won last year. "I didn't
think it was possible to win two years in a row. I wasn't going to play."
K.C. was unaware that Susie Isaacs won the Woman's Championship twice in a
row a few years ago at the World Series of Poker.
There were 158 entrants and 132 rebuys in the $130 Buy-In Ladies Hold'em for
a total prize pool of $33,740. One table was paid, a total of 10 players.
The Final Table was set up when Merri Perry caught perfect perfect for a gut
shot Broadway to knock out a woman with the top two pair. When asked who the
woman was, Merri answered for the group "We don't know and we don't care.
We're in the money." Harsh!

| Seat 6: K.C. Carter (Henderson, NV) | $41,000 |
| Seat 7: Kathryn McCarthy (Calgary, Canada) | $7,100 |

| Seat 9: Maria Jo DeLuca-Isaac (Newark, NJ) | $1,900 |
| Seat 10: Di Kane (Melbourne, Australia) | $12,500 |
(My thanks to "The Barracuda" from Melbourne, Australia for many of the
following knockout hands, as I was at the Stud Hi-Lo Final Table that was
ending concurrently.)
Already the chip leader, defending champion K.C. Carter got off the a strong
start by taking out Maria Jo DeLuca-Isaac in 10th with a runner runner full
house.
It was a long way to come for 9th, but Di Kane from Australia was all-in for
her big blind with 3 2. Merri Perry had 5's to send Di hopping back home.
Sylvia Hart was heartless to Becky Vincent in 8th. Sylvia had pocket Jacks
and didn't need the trips that came on the river. Becky was all-in with A 10.
On the same hand that exited Becky Vincent, maybe the best player in the
building--Cissy Bottoms, left in 7th with pocket 4's.
Sweated by her daughter Linda on the rail, Natalie Ryke ended up in 6th when
pocket 8's from by Merri Perry held up. Natalie had Q 9 all-in.
It was positively un-neighborly of Merri Perry to treat her Canadian visitor
to a 5th place finish. Kathryn McCarthy had pocket 8's and led until the
river when Merri caught yet another gut shot straight with her Ace and a
wheel.
K.C. Carter had almost all the chips and took out Sylvia Hart in 4th with a
ten high in the big blind, then Barbara Herther to get head up with Merri
Perry. K.C., who wasn't going to play, had $155,000 in chips to $35,000 to
Perry.
When Merri won a big pot to get her up to $63,000, K.C. accepted a chip count
deal giving her $9,881 to Merri's $8,206. Merri didn't care about the TOC but
she cared about getting another $500 not to play on.
K.C. Carter should enter more tournaments she doesn't think she can win.
