ALAN EHRENWORTH DEFEATS 1999 PLAYERS IN HISTORIC TWO-DAY EVENT
The Sunset ballroom at Foxwoods Resort Casino was the setting for the inaugural event of the World Poker Finals—2004. As was the case in previous years, the opening event attracted a record number of entries.
This year’s opener was a multi-play event in which 201 single table winners from day one met in today’s final. In the end Alan Ehrenworth of Hamilton, NJ, emerged as the winner of the $31,921 first place prize.
The final table began at 10:00 PM and Kevin Bronson, the chip leader in seat #1, maintained his lead for the next hour as players were eliminated.
The first player out was Yves Hentic who was on a flush draw and lost to Gerald Cheatham’s 9’s. Gerald was the next one out to the player doing most of the damage at the final table: Alan Ehrenworth. He knocked out Gerald with A’s, Joseph Michelin with 5’s and Jason Delcarpini again with A’s.
Along the way Jason Chase lost a tough all-in to Joseph Michelin whose K’s prevailed over A9.
At 11:15, Alan, Kevin and Stephen Dalao were the only players left from the 1999 who entered the day before. Alan quickly took care of Stephen with a pair of K’s to a AQ. At this point, the chip count was virtually even with a slight edge to Alan.
A couple of hands later, Kevin was all in with a pair of 9’s and Alan called with A6. With an A on the flop, Alan was able to pull out a victory.
