Tournament Report
| LARRY STJEAN OUTLASTS 226 OPPONENTS WINS OMAHA HI-LO
It was struggle right to the finish but Larry StJean
was able to hold on for a well deserved victory. The
final table began at 11 PM and was finally concluded
after 3 hours of back and forth action.
StJean earned the trophy, leather jacket and, most
importantly, the $34,661 first place prize with a
straight on the river to Terry Wells’ two pair. Wells
was able, a few hands previously, to eliminate a tiring
Lawrence Samuelson with an ace high straight. The fourth place finisher, Jeffrey King,
came back from his final table opening position of low man with an impressive showing.
The key hand early in his run was an A2S (flush & low) which scooped a large pot. King
was eliminated by Wells with an ace high flush. Desmond Portano (5th place) had 3’s full
of 6’s but lost to StJean’s 8’s full of 3’s. Michael Sohayegh’s two pair (QQ55) lost to StJean
(again) with trip 5’s. Roland Tetreault went all-in on the blind and was not able to overcome
Samuelson’s two pair (JJ99). Stephen Ross was looking good with two pair (AAJJ) until
Wells hit a flush on the turn. Tenth place finisher, Gene Timberlake, was eliminated early
and it was not until an hour later that Daniel Yanofski who was all-in on the blind lost to
StJean’s pair of deuces.
When all was said and done, Larry StJean, with six knockout punches on the final table, was
the victor.
