ROBERT FERDINAND WINS EPIC BATTLE! Almost 5 Hours at the Final Table

The $500 Seven Card Stud event started at 10 AM with 283 competitors. At the end, after 18 plus hours of battle, the only man standing was Robert “Bobby” Ferdinand of Saugus, MA.

The final table began at 11:45 PM and was concluded at 4:35 AM; but that only tells half the story.

Michael Vitiello, Lynn, MA, was the first to leave. As the short stack,he lost with two pair to Jean Gaspard’s trip 8’s. Gaspard next took out Kevin Biernacki of Worcester, MA, with a straight to Biernacki’s pair.

Gaspard again lowered the boom on Jo-Jo Curti who was short stacked, went all in with a K high and lost to Gaspard’s pair of 4’s. Yuebin Guo, Brooklyn, NY, was the next to exit. He had a pair of K’s but Prabhu Dyal, Queens, NY, caught an A on the river for AAQQ. Norman Stranding of Pawtucket, RI, made a stand with an A high hand which was good until Dyal caught a Q high flush which relegated Stranding to fourth place.

With three players left in the field and only one and a half hours into the final table, it looked like an early night.

When Jean Gaspard, Evanston, IL, was forced out at 1:30 AM as his Q’s up lost to Dyal’s A’s up, that certainly seemed to be the case. However, Ferdinand and Dyal had other plans. It took another three hours for this contest to be decided.

Ferdinand was behind in chips when the heads up action began. But large swings can happen when the limits are 6000/12000 and above. Ferdinand won at least two large pots with 6’s and Dyal was equally successful in pulling out two A high straights.

At the 8000/16000 level, Dyal went all-in and won with 10’s up over 9’s up. He built his chips back up and at the 10000/20000 limit had Ferdinand all in; Ferdinand won with a small pair.

Then the tide turned once again. At the 20000/40000 limit Dyal was all in five times! He won the first four with A’s up, pair of 3’s, 10’s up and a spade flush on 6th street.

The fifth time was the charm for Ferdinand. His A’s and K’s beat Dyal’s 9’s and 4’s and he drove off with a well-deserved victory.

For his efforts he took home the coveted trophy, a beautiful leather jacket and, most importantly,$41,888 in first place prize money.
